44:1After thys, he brought me agayne to the outwarde dore of the Sanctuary on the East syde and that was shut.
44:2Then sayde the Lorde vnto me: This dore shall be styll shut, and not opened for enye man to go thorow it, but only for the Lorde God of Israell, yee he shall go thorowe it, els shal it be shut styll.
44:3The prynce hym selfe shall come thorow it, that he maye eate bread before the Lorde. At the porche shall he come in, and there shall he go out agayne.
44:4Then brought he me to the dore, vpon the North syde of the house. And as I loked aboute me, beholde, the glory of the Lord fylled the house: and I fell downe vpon my face.
44:5So the Lord spake vnto me: O thou sonne of man fasten this to thyne herte, beholde, and take dylygent hede to all that I wyll saye vnto the, concernyng all the ordynaunces of the Lord & all his lawes: pondre wel with thyne herte the commynge in of the house and the goinge forth of the Sanctuarye:
44:6and tell that obstynate housholde of Israell: Thus sayeth the Lorde God: O house of Israell, ye haue now done ynough withall youre abhomynacyons,
44:7seynge that ye haue brought in to my Sanctuary straungers, hauynge vncircumcysed hertes and fleshe, where thorow my Sanctuary is defyled, when ye offre me bred, fat, and bloude. Thus with all youre abhomynacyons ye haue broken my couenaunt,
44:8and not kepte the holy ordinaunces of my Sanctuarye: but set kepers of my Sanctuary, euen after your owne mynde.
44:9Therfore thus sayeth the Lord God: Of all the straungers that dwell amonge the chyldren of Israell, no straunger (whose herte & fleshe is not cyrcumcysed) shall come within my Sanctuarye:
44:10No ner the Leuites that be gone backe frome, and haue dysceyued the people of Israell wyth all erroures, goinge after their ydoles: therfore shall they beare their owne wyckednes.
44:11Shulde they be set & ordened to mynystre vnder the dores of the house of my Sanctuarye? And to do seruyce in the house: to slaye burntoffringes and sacrifyces for the people: to stande before them, and to serue them:
44:12seynge the seruyce that they do them, is before their Idoles, and cause the house of Israell to stomble thorowe the wyckednes? For the whych cause I haue pluckte out myne hande ouer them (sayeth the Lorde) so that now they must beare their owne iniquyte,
44:13and not to come nye me, to serue me with their presthode, in my Sanctuarye, and moost holyest of all: that they maye beare their owne shame & abhomynacyons, which they haue done.
44:14Shulde I vse them to be porters of the house, and to all the seruyce that is done therin?
44:15But the Prestes the Leuytes the sonnes of Sadoch, that kepte the holye ordynaunces of my Sanctuarye, when the chyldren of Israell were gone fro me: shall come to me, to do me seruyce, to stande before me, & to offre me the fat & the bloude, sayeth the Lorde God.
44:16They shall go in to my Sanctuarye, and treade before my table, to do me seruice, and to wayte vpon myne ordynaunces.
44:17Now when they go in at the dores of the ynnermer court: they shal put on lynen clothes, so that no wollyne come vpon them: whyle they do seruyce vnder the dores of the ynnermer courte, and within.
44:18They shall haue fayre lynen bonettes vpon their heades, and lynen breches vpon their loynes, whyche in their laboure they shall not put about them:
44:19And when they go forth to the people in to the outward courte, they shall put of the clothes, wherin they haue mynystred, and laye them in the habytacyon of the Sanctuary, and put on other apparel, lest they vnhalowe the people wyth their clothes.
44:20They shall not shaue their heades, ner noryshe the bushe of their heare, but rounde their heades onlye.
44:21All the Prestes that go into the ynmost court, shall dryncke no wyne.
44:22They shall mary no wydow, nether one that is put from her husband: but a mayde of the sede of the house of Israel, or a wyddowe: that hath had a prest before.
44:23They shall shewe my people the dyfference betwene the holye and vnholye, betwyxte the clene and vnclene.
44:24If any discorde arise, they shall dyscerne it, and geue sentence after my iudgementes. My solempne feastes, my lawes and ordynaunces shall they kepe, and halowe my Sabbathes.
44:25They shall come at no deed persone, to defyle them selues (excepte it be father or mother, sonne or daughter, brother or syster that hath hadyet no husbande) in soch they maye be defyled.
44:26And when he is clensed, there shall be rekened vnto hym .vij. dayes:
44:27and yf he go in to the Sanctuary agayne to do seruyce, he shall bringe a synoffrynge sayeth the Lorde God.
44:28They shall haue an heretage, yee I my selfe wilbe their heretage: els shall ye geue them no possessyon in Israel, for I am their possessyon.
44:29The meatoffrynge, synoffrynge & trespaceoffrynge shall they eate, and euery dedycate thing in Israel, shalbe theirs.
44:30The firstlynges of all the first fruytes, & all fre wil offrynges shall be the prestes. Ye shal geue vnto the preste also the firstlynges of youre dowe, that God maye prospere the resydue.
44:31But no deed caryon shall that perst eate, ner soch as is deuoured of wylde beastes, foules or catell.

Matthew's Bible 1537

The Matthew Bible, also known as Matthew's Version, was first published in 1537 by John Rogers, under the pseudonym "Thomas Matthew". It combined the New Testament of William Tyndale, and as much of the Old Testament as he had been able to translate before being captured and put to death, with the translations of Myles Coverdale as to the balance of the Old Testament and the Apocrypha, except the Apocryphal Prayer of Manasses. It is thus a vital link in the main sequence of English Bible translations.
