| 39:1 | Therfore O thou sonne of man, prophecye agaynste Gog, and speake: Thus sayeth the Lorde God: Behold, O Gog: thou chefe prince at Mesech and Tubal, I wyll vpon the, |
| 39:2 | and turne the aboute, & carie the forth, and leade the from the north partes, and bringe the vp to the mountaynes of Israell. |
| 39:3 | As for thy bowe, I wyll smyte it out of thy left hande, and cast thyne arowes out of thy ryght hande. |
| 39:4 | Thou wyth all thyne heape, and all the people that is wyth the, muste, fall vpon the mountaynes of Israell. Then wyll I geue the vnto the foules & wylde beastes of the felde, to be deuoured: |
| 39:5 | there must thou lye vpon the felde: for euen I the Lorde haue spoken it, sayeth the Lorde God. |
| 39:6 | In to Magog, and amonge those that syt so carelesse in the Iles: will I sende a fyre, & they shall know, that I am the Lorde. |
| 39:7 | I wyll make also the name of my holynesse to be knowne amonge my people of Israell: and I wyll not let my holy name be euell spoken of enymore: but the very Heathen also shal knowe, that I am the Lorde, the holye one of Israell |
| 39:8 | Beholde, it commeth, and shalbe fulfylled in dede, sayeth the Lord God. This is the daye wherof I haue spoken: |
| 39:9 | They that dwell in the cyties of Israel, shall go forth & set fyre vpon the weapens, & burne them: shyldes & speres bowes and arowes, bylles & clubbes: seuen yeares |
| 39:10 | shall they be burnynge therof, so that they shall els bringe no styckes from the felde, nether haue nede to hew downe eny out of the wodde: For they shal haue weapens ynow to burne. They shall robbe those that robbed them, & spoyle those that spoyled them sayeth the Lorde God. |
| 39:11 | At the same tyme wyll I geue vnto Gog, a place to be buried in, in Israel: euen the valley where thorow men go from the east to the see warde. Those that trauayle therby, shall abhorre it. There shall Gog and all hys people be buried: and it shalbe called the valleye of the people of Gog. |
| 39:12 | Seuen monethes longe shall the house of Israell be burienge of them that they maye clense the lande. |
| 39:13 | Yee al the people of the lande shall burye them. O it shall be a glorious daye, when I gett me that honoure, sayeth the Lorde God. |
| 39:14 | They shall ordene men also to be deed buriers, euer going thorow the lande, & appoynte them certayne places to bury those in, which remayne vpon the felde, that the lande maye be clensed. From ende to ende shall they seke, and that .vij. monethes longe. |
| 39:15 | Now those that go thorow the land, where they se a mans bone, they shall set vp a token by it, till the deed buriers haue buried it also, in the valleys of the people of Gog. |
| 39:16 | And the name of the cytye shalbe called. Hamonah: Thus shalt they make the land clene. |
| 39:17 | And thou sonne of man: thus sayth the Lorde God: Speake vnto all the foules and euery byrde, yee and to all the wylde beastes of the felde: heape you together and come, gather you rounde aboute vpon my slaughter, that I haue slayne for you: euen a greate slaughter vpon the mountaynes of Israell: eate flesh, and drincke bloude. |
| 39:18 | Ye shall eate the flesh of the worthies, and drynke the bloude of the prynces of the lande: of the wethers, of the lambes of the goates, and of the oxen that be al slayne at Basan. |
| 39:19 | Eate the fat youre belyfull, & dryncke bloud, tyll ye be dronken of the slaughter, whyche I haue slayne vnto you. |
| 39:20 | Fyll you at my table, with horses and stronge horsmen: with captaynes and all men of warre, sayeth the Lorde God. |
| 39:21 | I wyll bringe my glorye also amonge the Gentyles, that all the Heathen maye se my iudgement, that I haue kepte, and my hande which I haue layed vpon them: |
| 39:22 | that the house of Israell maye knowe, how that I am the Lorde theyr God, from that daye forth. |
| 39:23 | And the Heathen shall knowe, that where as the house of Israell were led in to captyuite: it was for their wickednes sake, because they offended me. For the whych cause I hyd my face from them, and delyuered them in to the handes of their enemyes, that they myght all be slayne with the swearde. |
| 39:24 | Accordinge to their vnclennesse and vnfaithfull dealinges, so haue I entreated them, and hyd my face from them. |
| 39:25 | Therfore thus sayeth the Lorde God: Now wyll I brynge agayne the captiues of Iacob and haue mercy vpon the whole house of Israell, and be gelous for my holy names sake. |
| 39:26 | All their confusion and offence that they haue done agaynst me, shall be taken awaye: and so safely shall they dwell in their lande, that no man shall make them afrayed. |
| 39:27 | And when I haue brought them agayne from amonge the people, when I haue gathered them together out of their enemyes landes, & am praysed in them before many Heathen: |
| 39:28 | then shall they knowe, that I am the Lorde their God, which suffred them to be led in to cautyuyte amonge the Heathen, but now haue brought them agayne in to their owne lande, and not left one of them yonder. |
| 39:29 | After that, wyll I hyde my face nomore from them, but will poure out my sprete vpon the house of Israell, sayeth the Lorde God. |
Matthew's Bible 1537
The Matthew Bible, also known as Matthew's Version, was first published in 1537 by John Rogers, under the pseudonym "Thomas Matthew". It combined the New Testament of William Tyndale, and as much of the Old Testament as he had been able to translate before being captured and put to death, with the translations of Myles Coverdale as to the balance of the Old Testament and the Apocrypha, except the Apocryphal Prayer of Manasses. It is thus a vital link in the main sequence of English Bible translations.
