Zephaniah Chapter: 2

2:1Come together & gather you, O froward people,
2:2or the thing go forthe that is concluded, & or the tyme be passed awaye as the duste: or the fearefull wrath of the Lorde come vpon you,
2:3yea or the daye of the Lordes sore dyspleasure come vpon you. Seke the Lorde all ye meke herted vpon earth, ye that worcke after hys iudgemente, seke ryghtuousnesse: seke lowlynesse, that ye maye be defended in the wrothfull daye of the Lorde.
2:4For Gaza shal be destroyed, and Ascalon shall be layed waste. They shal caste oute Asdod at the noone daye, and Accaron shalbe pluckte vp by the rotes.
2:5Wo vnto you that dwell vpon the sea cost ye murtherous people: the worde of the Lord shal come vpon you. O Canaan thou lande of the Phylistines, I wyl destroy the, so that there shall no man dwel in the any more:
2:6and as for the sea coast, it shall be hyrdemens cotages & shepe foldes:
2:7yea it shalbe a porcyon for suche as remayne of the house of Iuda, to fede there vpon. In the houses of Ascalon shall they reste towarde nyght: for the Lorde theyr God shal vpset them, & turne awaye theyr captyuyte.
2:8I haue heard the despyte of Moab, & the blasphemyes of the chyldren of Ammon, howe they haue shamefullye intreated my people, and magnifyed them selues wythin the borders of theyr lande.
2:9Therfore as truely as I lyue (sayeth the Lorde of hostes the God of Israel) Moab shalbe as Sodome, & Ammon as Gomorra: euen drye thorne hedges, salt pyttes and a perpetual wyldernes. The resydue of my folcke shall spoyle them the remnaunte of my people shall haue them in possession.
2:10This shal happen vnto them for their pryde, because they haue dealte so shamefullye wyth the Lorde of hostes people, and magnified themselues aboue them.
2:11The lorde shall be gryme vpon them, & destroy al the goddes in the lande. And al the Iles of the heathen shal worshippe him, euery man in hys place.
2:12Ye Morians also shal perish with my swerd:
2:13yea, he shall stretche oute his hande ouer the north, and destroye Assur. As for Niniue, he shall make it desolate, drye and waste.
2:14The flockes & all the beastes of the people shall lye in the middeste of it, pellicanes & storckes shall abyde in the vpperpostes of it, soules shall synge in the wyndowes, & rauens shall syt vpon the balckes, for the borders of Cedre shal be ryuen doune.
2:15Thys is the proude and carelesse cytye, that sayde in her herte: I am, and there is els none. O how is she made so wast that the beastes lye therein? Who so goeth by mocketh her, and poynteth at her wyth hys fynger.

Matthew's Bible 1537

The Matthew Bible, also known as Matthew's Version, was first published in 1537 by John Rogers, under the pseudonym "Thomas Matthew". It combined the New Testament of William Tyndale, and as much of the Old Testament as he had been able to translate before being captured and put to death, with the translations of Myles Coverdale as to the balance of the Old Testament and the Apocrypha, except the Apocryphal Prayer of Manasses. It is thus a vital link in the main sequence of English Bible translations.
