22:1 | And Jesus answering, again spake to them in similes, saying, |
22:2 | `The reign of the heavens was likened to a man, a king, who made marriage-feasts for his son, |
22:3 | and he sent forth his servants to call those having been called to the marriage-feasts, and they were not willing to come. |
22:4 | `Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Say to those who have been called: Lo, my dinner I prepared, my oxen and the fatlings have been killed, and all things `are' ready, come ye to the marriage-feasts; |
22:5 | and they, having disregarded `it', went away, the one to his own field, and the other to his merchandise; |
22:6 | and the rest, having laid hold on his servants, did insult and slay `them'. |
22:7 | `And the king having heard, was wroth, and having sent forth his soldiers, he destroyed those murderers, and their city he set on fire; |
22:8 | then saith he to his servants, The marriage-feast indeed is ready, and those called were not worthy, |
22:9 | be going, then, on to the cross-ways, and as many as ye may find, call ye to the marriage-feasts. |
22:10 | `And those servants, having gone forth to the ways, did gather all, as many as they found, both bad and good, and the marriage-feast apartment was filled with those reclining. |
22:11 | `And the king having come in to view those reclining, saw there a man not clothed with clothing of the marriage-feast, |
22:12 | and he saith to him, Comrade, how didst thou come in hither, not having clothing of the marriage-feast? and he was speechless. |
22:13 | `Then said the king to the ministrants, Having bound his feet and hands, take him up and cast forth to the outer darkness, there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth; |
22:14 | for many are called, and few chosen.' |
22:15 | Then the Pharisees having gone, took counsel how they might ensnare him in words, |
22:16 | and they send to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, `Teacher, we have known that thou art true, and the way of God in truth thou dost teach, and thou art not caring for any one, for thou dost not look to the face of men; |
22:17 | tell us, therefore, what dost thou think? is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not?' |
22:18 | And Jesus having known their wickedness, said, `Why me do ye tempt, hypocrites? |
22:19 | show me the tribute-coin?' and they brought to him a denary; |
22:20 | and he saith to them, `Whose `is' this image and the inscription?' |
22:21 | they say to him, `Caesar's;' then saith he to them, `Render therefore the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God;' |
22:22 | and having heard they wondered, and having left him they went away. |
22:23 | In that day there came near to him Sadducees, who are saying there is not a rising again, and they questioned him, saying, |
22:24 | `Teacher, Moses said, If any one may die not having children, his brother shall marry his wife, and shall raise up seed to his brother. |
22:25 | `And there were with us seven brothers, and the first having married did die, and not having seed, he left his wife to his brother; |
22:26 | in like manner also the second, and the third, unto the seventh, |
22:27 | and last of all died also the woman; |
22:28 | therefore in the rising again, of which of the seven shall she be wife -- for all had her?' |
22:29 | And Jesus answering said to them, `Ye go astray, not knowing the Writings, nor the power of God; |
22:30 | for in the rising again they do not marry, nor are they given in marriage, but are as messengers of God in heaven. |
22:31 | `And concerning the rising again of the dead, did ye not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying, |
22:32 | I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not a God of dead men, but of living.' |
22:33 | And having heard, the multitudes were astonished at his teaching; |
22:34 | and the Pharisees, having heard that he did silence the Sadducees, were gathered together unto him; |
22:35 | and one of them, a lawyer, did question, tempting him, and saying, |
22:36 | `Teacher, which `is' the great command in the Law?' |
22:37 | And Jesus said to him, `Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thine understanding -- |
22:38 | this is a first and great command; |
22:39 | and the second `is' like to it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself; |
22:40 | on these -- the two commands -- all the law and the prophets do hang.' |
22:41 | And the Pharisees having been gathered together, Jesus did question them, |
22:42 | saying, `What do ye think concerning the Christ? of whom is he son?' They say to him, `Of David.' |
22:43 | He saith to them, `How then doth David in the Spirit call him lord, saying, |
22:44 | The Lord said to my lord, Sit at my right hand, till I may make thine enemies thy footstool? |
22:45 | If then David doth call him lord, how is he his son?' |
22:46 | And no one was able to answer him a word, nor durst any from that day question him any more. |
22:1 | And Iesus answered and spake vnto them agayne in similitudes sayinge. |
22:2 | The kingdome of heve is lyke vnto a certayne kynge which maryed his sonne |
22:3 | and sent forth his servantes to call them that were byd to the weddinge and they wolde not come. |
22:4 | Ageyne he sent forth other servauntes sayinge: Tell them which are bydden: beholde I have prepared my dynner myne oxen and my fatlinges are kylled and all thinges are redy come vnto the mariage. |
22:5 | But they made light of it and went their wayes: one to his ferme place another about his marchaundise |
22:6 | the remnaunt toke his seruantes and intreated them vngodly and slewe them. |
22:7 | When the kinge hearde that he was wroth and send forth his warryers and distroyed those murtherers and brent vp their cyte. |
22:8 | Then sayde he to his servauutes: the weddinge was prepared. But they which were bydden were not worthy. |
22:9 | Go ye therfore out into ye hyewayes and as many as ye finde byd them to the mariage. |
22:10 | The seruauntes wet out into the hiewayes and gaddered to gedder as many as they coulde fynde both good and bad and ye weddinge was furnysshed with gestes. |
22:11 | Then the kynge came in to viset the gestes and spyed there a ma which had not on a weddinge garment |
22:12 | and sayde vnto him: frende how fortuned it that thou camest in hither and hast not on a weddyng garment? And he was eve spechlesse. |
22:13 | Then sayde the kynge to his ministers: take and bynde hym hand and fote and caste hym into vtter darcknes there shalbe wepinge and gnasshinge of teth. |
22:14 | For many are called and feawe be chosen. |
22:15 | Then wet the Pharises and toke counsell how they might tagle him in his wordes. |
22:16 | And they sent vnto him their disciples with Herodes servauntes sayinge: Master we knowe yt thou are true and teachest the waye of god trulie nether carest for eny man for thou consydrest not menes estate. |
22:17 | Tell vs therfore: how thynkest thou? Is it lawfull to geve tribute vnto Cesar or not? |
22:18 | Iesus perceaved their wikednes and sayde: Why tempte ye me ye ypocrites? |
22:19 | Let me se ye tribute money. And they toke hym a peny. |
22:20 | And he sayde vnto them: whose is this ymage and superscripcion? |
22:21 | They sayde vnto him: Cesars. Then sayde he vnto them. Geve therfore to Cesar that which is Cesars: and geve vnto god that which is goddes. |
22:22 | When they hearde that they marveled and lefte hym and went there waye. |
22:23 | The same daye the Saduces came to him (which saye that there is no resurrcecion) and axed him |
22:24 | sayinge: Master Moses bade yf a man dye havinge no chyldre that the brother mary his wyfe and reyse vp seed vnto his brother. |
22:25 | Ther were wt vs seven brethre and the fyrste maried and deceased wt oute yssue and lefte his wyfe vnto his brother. |
22:26 | Lykewise the seconde and ye thryd vnto the sevethe. |
22:27 | Laste of all the woman dyed also. |
22:28 | Now in the resurreccion whose wyfe shall she be of the seven? For all had her. |
22:29 | Iesus answered and sayde vnto the: ye are deceaved and vnderstonde not the scriptures nor yet the power of God. |
22:30 | For in the resurreccion they nether mary nor are maryed: but are as the angels of God in heven. |
22:31 | As touchynge the resurreccion of the deed: have ye not redde what is sayde vnto you of God which sayeth: |
22:32 | I am Abrahams God and Ysaacks God and the God of Iacob? God is not the God of the deed: but of the lyvinge. |
22:33 | And when the people hearde that they were astonyed at his doctrine. |
22:34 | When the Pharises had hearde how yt he had put the Saduces to silence they drewe to gedder |
22:35 | and one of them which was a doctoure of lawe axed a question teptinge h m and sayinge: |
22:36 | Master which is ye chefe comaundment in the lawe? |
22:37 | Iesus sayde vnto him: love the Lorde thy God wt all thine herte with all thy soule and with all thy mynde. |
22:38 | This is the fyrst and the chefe comaundement. |
22:39 | And ther is another lyke vnto this. Love thyne neghbour as thy selfe. |
22:40 | In these two commaundemetes hange all the lawe and the Prophetes. |
22:41 | Whyll the Pharises were gaddered togeder Iesus axed |
22:42 | the sayinge: what thinke ye of Christ? Whose sonne is he? They sayde vnto him: the sonne of David. |
22:43 | He sayde vnto the: how then doeth David in spirite call him Lorde sayinge? |
22:44 | The Lorde sayde to my Lorde syt on my right honde: tyll I make thyne enemyes thy fote stole. |
22:45 | Yf David call him Lorde: how is he then his sonne? |
22:46 | And none coulde answere him ageyne one worde: nether dueste eny from that daye forth axe him eny moo questions. |
22:1 | And Iesus answered, and spake vnto the agayne by parables, & sayde: |
22:2 | The kingdome of heauen is like vnto a kynge, which maried his sonne. |
22:3 | And sent forth his seruauntes, to call the gestes vnto the mariage, & they wolde not come. |
22:4 | Agayne, he sent forth other seruauntes, and sayde: Tell the gestes: Beholde, I haue prepared my dynner, myne oxen and my fed catell are kylled, and all thinges are readye, come to the mariage. |
22:5 | But they made light of it, and wente their wayes: one to his hussbandrye, another to his marchaundise. |
22:6 | As for the remnaut, they toke his seruauntes, and intreated the shamefully, and slew the. |
22:7 | When the kynge herde that, he was wroth, and sent forth his warryers, and destroyed those murtherers, and set fyre vpon their cite. |
22:8 | Then sayde he vnto his seruauntes: The mariage in dede is prepared, but the gestes were not worthy. |
22:9 | Go youre waye out therfore in to ye hye wayes, and as many as ye fynde, byd them to the mariage. |
22:10 | And the seruauntes wete out in to the hye wayes, and gathered together as many as they coulde fynde, both good and bad, & the tables were all full. |
22:11 | Then the kynge wete in, to se the gestes, and spyed there a man that had not on a weddynge garment, |
22:12 | and sayde vnto him: Frende, how camest thou in hither, & hast not on a weddyinge garment? And he was euen spechlesse. |
22:13 | Then sayde the kynge vnto his seruauntes: Take and bynde him hande and fote, & cast him into ye vtter darcknes: there shal be waylinge and gnasshinge of teth. |
22:14 | For many be called, but few are chose. |
22:15 | Then wente the Pharises, and toke councell, how they might tangle him in his wordes, |
22:16 | and sent vnto him their disciples with Herodes officers, and sayde: Master, we knowe that thou art true, and teachest the waye of God truly, and carest for no ma: for thou regardest not the outwarde appearaunce of me. |
22:17 | Tell us therfore, how thinkest thou? Is it laufulll to geue tribute vnto the Emperoure, or not? |
22:18 | Now wha Iesus perceaued their wickednes, he sayde: O ye ypocrites, why tepte ye me? |
22:19 | Shewe me ye tribute money. And they toke hi a peny. |
22:20 | And he saide vnto the: Whose is this ymage and superscription? |
22:21 | They sayde vnto him: The Emperours. Then sayde he vnto them: Geue therfore vnto the Emperour, that which is the Emperours: and geue vnto God, that which is Gods. |
22:22 | When they herde that, they marueyled, and left him, & wete their waye. |
22:23 | The same daye there came vnto him the Saduces (which holde that there is no resurreccion) and axed him, |
22:24 | and sayde: Master, Moses sayde: Yf a man dye, hauynge no children, his brother shal mary his wife, & rayse vp sede vnto his brother. |
22:25 | Now were there with us seue brethren. The first maried a wife, and dyed: & for somoch as he had no sede, he left his wife vnto his brother. |
22:26 | Like wyse the secode, and thirde vnto the seueth. |
22:27 | Last of all the woman dyed also. |
22:28 | Now in the resurreccion, whose wife shal she be of the seuen? For they all had her. |
22:29 | Iesus answered, and sayde vnto them: Ye erre, and vnderstode not the scriptures, ner the power of God. |
22:30 | In the resurreccion they shal nether mary, ner be maried, but are as the angels of God in heauen. |
22:31 | As touchinge the resurreccio of the deed, haue ye notred, what is spoken vnto you of God, which sayeth: |
22:32 | I am the God of Abraham, and ye God of Isaac, and the God of Iacob? Yet is not God a God of the deed, but of the lyuynge. |
22:33 | And whan the people herde that, they were astonnyed at his doctryne. |
22:34 | When the Pharises herde, that he had stopped the mouth of the Saduces, they gathered them selues together. |
22:35 | And one of them (a Scrybe) tepted him, and sayde: |
22:36 | Master, which is the chefest commaundemet in the lawe? |
22:37 | Iesus saide vnto him: Thou shalt loue the LORDE thy God with all thy hert, with all thy soule, and with all thy mynde: |
22:38 | this is the pryncipall and greatest comaundement. |
22:39 | As for the seconde, it is like vnto it: Thou shalt loue thy neghboure as thy self. |
22:40 | In these two commaundementes hange all the lawe and the prophetes. |
22:41 | Now whyle the Pharises were gathered together, Iesus axed them, |
22:42 | and sayde: What thinke ye of Christ? Whose sonne is he? They sayde vnto him: Dauids. |
22:43 | He sayde vnto them: How then doth Dauid in sprete, call him LORDE, sayenge: |
22:44 | The LORDE sayde vnto my LORDE: Syt thou on my right honde, tyll I make thine enemies thy fote stole. |
22:45 | Yf Dauid now call him LORDE, how is he then his sonne? |
22:46 | And no man coude answere him one worde, nether durst eny man axe him eny mo questios, fro that daye forth. |
