21:1 | And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, unto the mount of the Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, |
21:2 | saying to them, `Go on to the village over-against you, and immediately ye shall find an ass bound, and a colt with her -- having loosed, bring ye to me; |
21:3 | and if any one may say anything to you, ye shall say, that the lord hath need of them, and immediately he will send them.' |
21:4 | And all this came to pass, that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through the prophet, saying, |
21:5 | `Tell ye the daughter of Zion, Lo, thy king doth come to thee, meek, and mounted on an ass, and a colt, a foal of a beast of burden.' |
21:6 | And the disciples having gone and having done as Jesus commanded them, |
21:7 | brought the ass and the colt, and did put on them their garments, and set `him' upon them; |
21:8 | and the very great multitude spread their own garments in the way, and others were cutting branches from the trees, and were strewing in the way, |
21:9 | and the multitudes who were going before, and who were following, were crying, saying, `Hosanna to the Son of David, blessed is he who is coming in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.' |
21:10 | And he having entered into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, `Who is this?' |
21:11 | And the multitudes said, `This is Jesus the prophet, who `is' from Nazareth of Galilee.' |
21:12 | And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and did cast forth all those selling and buying in the temple, and the tables of the money-changers he overturned, and the seats of those selling the doves, |
21:13 | and he saith to them, `It hath been written, My house a house of prayer shall be called, but ye did make it a den of robbers.' |
21:14 | And there came to him blind and lame men in the temple, and he healed them, |
21:15 | and the chief priests and the scribes having seen the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, `Hosanna to the Son of David,' were much displeased; |
21:16 | and they said to him, `Hearest thou what these say?' And Jesus saith to them, `Yes, did ye never read, that, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings Thou didst prepare praise?' |
21:17 | And having left them, he went forth out of the city to Bethany, and did lodge there, |
21:18 | and in the morning turning back to the city, he hungered, |
21:19 | and having seen a certain fig-tree on the way, he came to it, and found nothing in it except leaves only, and he saith to it, `No more from thee may fruit be -- to the age;' and forthwith the fig-tree withered. |
21:20 | And the disciples having seen, did wonder, saying, `How did the fig-tree forthwith wither?' |
21:21 | And Jesus answering said to them, `Verily I say to you, If ye may have faith, and may not doubt, not only this of the fig-tree shall ye do, but even if to this mount ye may say, Be lifted up and be cast into the sea, it shall come to pass; |
21:22 | and all -- as much as ye may ask in the prayer, believing, ye shall receive.' |
21:23 | And he having come to the temple, there came to him when teaching the chief priests and the elders of the people, saying, `By what authority dost thou do these things? and who gave thee this authority?' |
21:24 | And Jesus answering said to them, `I will ask you -- I also -- one word, which if ye may tell me, I also will tell you by what authority I do these things; |
21:25 | the baptism of John, whence was it? -- from heaven, or from men?' And they were reasoning with themselves, saying, `If we should say, From heaven; he will say to us, Wherefore, then, did ye not believe him? |
21:26 | and if we should say, From men, we fear the multitude, for all hold John as a prophet.' |
21:27 | And answering Jesus they said, `We have not known.' He said to them -- he also -- `Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things. |
21:28 | `And what think ye? A man had two children, and having come to the first, he said, Child, go, to-day be working in my vineyard.' |
21:29 | And he answering said, `I will not,' but at last, having repented, he went. |
21:30 | `And having come to the second, he said in the same manner, and he answering said, I `go', sir, and went not; |
21:31 | which of the two did the will of the father?' They say to him, `The first.' Jesus saith to them, `Verily I say to you, that the tax-gatherers and the harlots do go before you into the reign of God, |
21:32 | for John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye did not believe him, and the tax-gatherers and the harlots did believe him, and ye, having seen, repented not at last -- to believe him. |
21:33 | `Hear ye another simile: There was a certain man, a householder, who planted a vineyard, and did put a hedge round it, and digged in it a wine-press, and built a tower, and gave it out to husbandmen, and went abroad. |
21:34 | `And when the season of the fruits came nigh, he sent his servants unto the husbandmen, to receive the fruits of it, |
21:35 | and the husbandmen having taken his servants, one they scourged, and one they killed, and one they stoned. |
21:36 | `Again he sent other servants more than the first, and they did to them in the same manner. |
21:37 | `And at last he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son; |
21:38 | and the husbandmen having seen the son, said among themselves, This is the heir, come, we may kill him, and may possess his inheritance; |
21:39 | and having taken him, they cast `him' out of the vineyard, and killed him; |
21:40 | whenever therefore the lord of the vineyard may come, what will he do to these husbandmen?' |
21:41 | They say to him, `Evil men -- he will evilly destroy them, and the vineyard will give out to other husbandmen, who will give back to him the fruits in their seasons.' |
21:42 | Jesus saith to them, `Did ye never read in the Writings, A stone that the builders disallowed, it became head of a corner; from the Lord hath this come to pass, and it is wonderful in our eyes. |
21:43 | `Because of this I say to you, that the reign of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth its fruit; |
21:44 | and he who is falling on this stone shall be broken, and on whomsoever it may fall it will crush him to pieces.' |
21:45 | And the chief priests and the Pharisees having heard his similes, knew that of them he speaketh, |
21:46 | and seeking to lay hold on him, they feared the multitudes, seeing they were holding him as a prophet. |
21:1 | When they drewe neye vnto Ierusalem and were come to Betphage vnto mounte olivete: then sent Iesus two of his disciples |
21:2 | saiynge to the. Go in to the toune that lyeth over agaynste you and anone ye shall fynde an asse bounde and her colte with her: lose them and bringe them vnto me. |
21:3 | And if eny man saye ought vnto you saye ye yt the lorde hath neade of them: and streyght waye he will let them go. |
21:4 | All this was done to fulfyll that which was spoken by the Prophet sayinge: |
21:5 | Tell ye the doughter of Sion: beholde thy kynge cometh vnto the meke and sittinge vpon an asse and a colte the fole of an asse vsed to the yooke. |
21:6 | The disciples went and dyd as Iesus comaunded them |

21:20 | And when his disciples sawe that they marveled sayinge: Howe sone is the fygge tree wyddered awaye? |
21:21 | Iesus answered and sayde vnto the: Verely I saye vnto you yf ye shall have faith and shall not dout ye shall not only do that which I have done to the fygge tree: but also yf ye shall saye vnto this moutayne take thy silfe awaye and cast thy silfe into the see it shalbe done. |
21:22 | And whatsoever ye shall axe in prayer (if ye beleve) ye shall receave it. |
21:23 | And when he was come into the teple the chefe prestes and the elders of the people came vnto him as he was teachinge and sayde: by what auctorite doest thou these thinges? and who gave the this power? |

21:25 | The baptime of Iohn: whence was it? fro heve or of men? Then they reasoned amoge them selves sayinge: yf we shall saye fro heven he will saye vnto vs: why dyd ye not then beleve hym? |
21:26 | But and if we shall saye of men then feare we the people. For all men helde Iohn as a Prophet. |
21:27 | And they answered Iesus and sayde: we cannot tell. And he lyke wyse sayd vnto them: nether tell I you by what auctorite I do these thinges. |
21:28 | What saye ye to this? A certayne man had two sonnes and came to ye elder and sayde: sonne go and worke to daye in my vineyarde. |
21:29 | He answered and sayde I will not: but afterwarde repented and went. |
21:30 | Then came he to the second and sayde lyke wyse. And he answered and sayde: I will syr: yet wet not. |

21:32 | For Iohn came vnto you in the waye of rightewesnes and ye beleved hym not. But the publicans and the harlotes beleved him. And yet ye (though ye sawe it) were not yet moved with repentaunce that ye myght afterwarde have beleved hym. |
21:33 | Herken another similitude. Ther was a certayne housholder which planted a vineyarde and hedged it roude about and made a wynpresse in it and bilt a tower and let it out to husbandmen and wet in to a straunge coutre. |
21:34 | And when the tyme of the frute drewe neare he sent his servauntes to the husbandmen to receave the frutes of it. |
21:35 | And ye husbandme caught his servauntes and bet one kylled another and stoned another. |
21:36 | Agayne he sent other servantes moo then the fyrst: and they served them lyke wyse. |
21:37 | But last of all he sent vnto the his awne sonne sayinge: they will feare my sonne. |
21:38 | But when the husbandmen sawe the sonne they sayde amoge the selves: This is the heyre: come let vs kyll him and let vs take his inheritaunce to oure selves. |

21:41 | They sayde vnto him: he will cruellye destroye those evyll persons and wyll let out his vyneyarde vnto other husbandmen which shall delyver him the frute at tymes convenient |
21:42 | Iesus sayde vnto the: dyd ye never redde in the scriptures? The stone which ye bylders refused ye same is set in ye principall parte of ye corner: this was the lordes doinge and yt is mervelous in oure eyes. |
21:43 | Therfore saye I vnto you the kyngdome of God shalbe take from you and shalbe geve to the getyls which shall brynge forth the frutes of it. |
21:44 | And whosoever shall fall on this stone he shalbe broken but on whosoever it shall fall vpon it will grynde him to powder. |
21:45 | And when the chefe prestes and Pharises hearde these similitudes they perceaved yt he spake of the. |
21:46 | And they wet about to laye hondes on him but they feared ye people because they tooke him as a Prophet. |
21:1 | Now whan they drew nye vnto Ierusalem, and were come to Bethphage vnto mount Oliuete, Iesus sent two of his disciples, |
21:2 | and sayde vnto them: Go in to the towne that lyeth before you, & anone ye shal fynde an Asse bounde, and hir foale with her: lowse them, and brynge the vnto me. |
21:3 | And yf eny man saye ought vnto you, saye ye: the LORDE hath nede of the, And straight waye he wil let them go. |
21:4 | But all this was done, that the thinge might be fulfylled, which was spoken by the prophet, sayenge: |
21:5 | Tell the doughter of Sion: beholde, thy kynge commeth vnto ye meke, syttinge vpon an Asse and a foale of ye Asse vsed to the yocke. |
21:6 | The disciples wente, and dyd as Iesus commaunded them, |
21:7 | and brought the Asse and the foale, & layed their clothes vpon them, and set him theron. |
21:8 | But many of the people spred their garmentes in the waye: other cut downe braunches from the trees, and strawed them in the waye. |
21:9 | As for the people that wente before and that came after, they cryed and sayde: Hosianna vnto the sonne of Dauid, Blessed be he that commeth in the name of the LORDE, Hosianna in the height. |
21:10 | And whan he was come in to Ierusalem, all the cite was moued, and sayde: Who is this? |
21:11 | And the people sayde: This is Iesus ye prophet of Nazareth out of Galile. |
21:12 | And Iesus wente in to the teple of God, and cast out all them that bought and solde in the teple, and ouerthrew the tables of the money chaungers, and the seates of them that solde doues, |
21:13 | and sayde vnto them: It is wrytte: My house shalbe called ye house of prayer, but ye haue made it a denne of murthurers. |
21:14 | The blynde also and ye lame came vnto him in the temple, and he healed them. |
21:15 | But whan the hye prestes and the scrybes sawe the wonders that he dyd, and the children crienge in the temple and sayenge: Hosianna vnto the sonne of Dauid, they disdayned, |
21:16 | and sayde vnto him: Hearest thou what these saye? Iesus sayde vnto them: Yee. Haue ye neuer red: Out of the mouth of very babes and sucklinges thou hast ordeyned prayse? |
21:17 | And he left them there, and wente out of the cite vnto Bethania, and there abode ouer night. |
21:18 | But in the mornynge as he returned in to the cite, he hugred. |
21:19 | And in the waye he sawe a fygge tre, and came vnto it, and founde nothinge theron, but leaues onely, and sayde vnto it: Neuer frute growe on the from hence forth. And immediatly the fygge tre wythred awaye. |
21:20 | And whan his disciples sawe that, they marueyled, and sayde. How is ye fygge tre wythred awaye so soone? |
21:21 | Iesus answered and sayde vnto them: Verely I saye vnto you: Yf ye haue faith & doute not, ye shal not onely do this with the fygge tre, but yf ye shal saye vnto this mountayne: Avoyde, and cast thy self in to the see, it shal be done. |
21:22 | And what soeuer ye axe in prayer, yf ye beleue, ye shal receaue it. |
21:23 | And when he was come in to the teple, the chefe prestes and the elders of the people came vnto him (as he was teachinge) & sayde: By what auctorite doest thou these thinges? and who gaue the this auctorite? |
21:24 | Iesus answered and sayde vnto them: I wil axe a worde of you also: which yf ye tell me, I in like wyse wyl tell you, by what auctorite I do these thinges. |
21:25 | The baptime of Iho, whece was it? from heaue, or of men? Then thought they amoge them selues, and saide: Yf we saye it was from heaue, then shal he saye vnto us: Why dyd ye not then beleue him? |
21:26 | But yf we saye it was of men, the feare we the people: For euery ma helde Ihon for a prophet. |
21:27 | And they answered Iesus, & sayde: We can not tell. Then sayde he vnto them: Nether tell I you, by what auctorite I do these thinges. |
21:28 | But what thinke ye? A certayne man had two sonnes, and came to the first, and sayde: Go thy waye my sonne, & worke to daye in my vynyarde. |
21:29 | He answered and sayde: I wil not, but afterwarde he repented, and wente. |
21:30 | He came also vnto the secode, and sayde likewyse. And he answered and saide: I wil syr. And wete not. |
21:31 | Whether of them twayne dyd the wil of the father? They sayde vnto him: the first. Iesus sayde vnto the: Verely I saye vnto you: The publicans and harlottes shal come in to the kyngdome of God before you. |
21:32 | For Ihon came vnto you, and taught you ye right waye and ye beleued him not: but the publicans & harlottes beleued hi. As for you, though ye sawe it, yet were ye not moued with repetaunce, that ye might afterwarde haue beleued him. |
21:33 | Heare another parable. There was a certayne houssholder which planted a vynyarde, and hedged it roude aboute, and dygged a wyne presse in it, and built a tower, and let it out vnto hussbandmen, and wente in to a straunge countre. |
21:34 | Now wha the tyme of the frute drew neare, he sent his seruautes to the hussbandmen, to receaue the frutes of it. |
21:35 | Then the hussbandmen caught his seruauntes: one they bett, another they kylled, the thirde they stoned. |
21:36 | Agayne, he sent other seruauntes, moo then the first, and they dyd vnto them in like maner. |
21:37 | At the last he sent his owne sonne vnto them, and sayde: they wyl stode in awe of my sonne. |
21:38 | But whe the hussbandme sawe the sonne, they sayde amonge the selues: This is the Heyre, come, let us kyl hym, and take his inheritauce vnto oure selues. |
21:39 | And they caught him, and thrust him out of the vynyarde, & slew him. |
21:40 | Now whe the lorde of the vynyarde commeth, what wyl he do wt those hussbandmen? |
21:41 | They sayde vnto him: He wyl cruelly destroye those euell personnes, & let out his vyniarde vnto other hussbadmen, which shal delyuer him the frute at tymes conuenyent. |
21:42 | Iesus sayde vnto the: Dyd ye neuer rede in the scriptures: The same stone which the buylders refused, is become the heade stone in the corner? This was the LORDES doynge, & it is maruelous i oure eyes |
21:43 | Therfore I saie vnto you: The kingdome of God shalbe take fro you, & shalbe geue vnto the Heithe, which shal brynge forth ye frutes of it. |
21:44 | And who so falleth vpo this stone, shalbe broke in peces: & loke vpo whom it falleth, it shal grynde him to poulder. |
21:45 | And when the hye prestes & Pharises herde his parables, they perceaued, that he spake of them. |
21:46 | And they wente aboute to take him, but they feared ye people, because they helde hi for a prophet. |
