1:1 | Poul, clepid apostle of Jhesu Crist, bi the wille of God, and Sostenes, brothir, to the chirche of God that is at Corynthe, |
1:2 | to hem that ben halewid in Crist Jhesu, and clepid seyntis, with alle that inwardli clepen the name of oure Lord Jhesu Crist, in ech place of hem and of oure, |
1:3 | grace to you and pees of God, oure fadir, and of the Lord Jhesu Crist. |
1:4 | Y do thankyngis to my God eueremore for you, in the grace of God that is youun to you in Crist Jhesu. |
1:5 | For in alle thingis ye ben maad riche in hym, in ech word, and in ech kunnyng, |
1:6 | as the witnessyng of Crist is confermyd in you; |
1:7 | so that no thing faile to you in ony grace, that abiden the schewyng of oure Lord Jhesu Crist; |
1:8 | which also schal conferme you in to the ende with outen cryme, in the dai of the comyng of oure Lord Jhesu Crist. |
1:9 | `A trewe God, bi whom ye ben clepid in to the felouschipe of his sone Jhesu Crist oure Lord. |
1:10 | But, britheren, Y biseche you, bi the name of oure Lord Jhesu Crist, that ye alle seie the same thing, and that dissenciouns be not among you; but be ye perfit in the same wit, and in the same kunnyng. |
1:11 | For, my britheren, it is teld to me of hem that ben at Cloes, that stryues ben among you. |
1:12 | And Y seie that, that ech of you seith, For Y am of Poul, and Y am of Apollo, and Y am of Cefas, but Y am of Crist. |
1:13 | Whether Crist is departid? whether Poul was crucified for you, ether ye ben baptisid in the name of Poul? |
1:14 | Y do thankyngis to my God, that Y baptiside noon of you, but Crispus and Gayus; |
1:15 | lest ony man seie, that ye ben baptisid in my name. |
1:16 | And Y baptiside also the hous of Stephan, but Y woot not, that Y baptiside ony other. |
1:17 | For Crist sente me not to baptise, but to preche the gospel; not in wisdom of word, that the cros of Crist be not voidid awei. |
1:18 | For the word of the cros is foli to hem that perischen; but to hem that ben maad saaf, that is to seie, to vs, it is the vertu of God. |
1:19 | For it is writun, Y schal distruye the wisdom of wise men, and Y schal reproue the prudence of prudent men. |
1:20 | Where is the wise man? where is the wise lawiere? where is the purchasour of this world? Whether God hath not maad the wisdom of this world fonned? |
1:21 | For the world in wisdom of God knewe not God bi wisdom, it pleside to God, bi foli of prechyng, `to maken hem saaf that bileueden. |
1:22 | For Jewis seken signes, and Grekis seken wisdom; |
1:23 | but we prechen Crist crucified, to Jewis sclaundre, and to hethene men foli; |
1:24 | but to tho Jewis and Grekis that ben clepid, we prechen Crist the vertu of God and the wisdom of God. |
1:25 | For that that is foli thing of God, is wiser than men; and that that is the feble thing of God, is strengere than men. |
1:26 | But, britheren, se ye youre clepyng; for not many wise men aftir the fleisch, not many myyti, not many noble. |
1:27 | But God chees tho thingis that ben fonned of the world, to confounde wise men; |
1:28 | and God chees the feble thingis of the world, to confounde the stronge thingis; and God chees the vnnoble thingis `and dispisable thingis of the world, and tho thingis that ben not, to distruye tho thingis that ben; |
1:29 | that ech man haue not glorie in his siyt. |
1:30 | But of hym ye ben in Crist Jhesu, which is maad of God to vs wisdom, and riytwisnesse, and holynesse, and ayenbiyng; that, |
1:31 | as it is wrytun, He that glorieth, haue glorie in the Lord. |
1:1 | Paul by vocacion an Apostle of Iesus Christ thorow the will of God and brother Sostenes. |
1:2 | Vnto the congregacion of God which is at Corinthum. To them that are sanctified in Christ Iesu sainctes by callynge with all that call on the name of oure lorde Iesus Christ in every place both of theirs and of oures |
1:3 | Grace be with you and peace fro God oure father and from the lorde Iesus Christ. |
1:4 | I thanke my God all wayes on youre behalfe for ye grace of God which is geuen you by Iesus Christ |
1:5 | that in all thinges ve are made riche by him in all lerninge and in all knowledge |
1:6 | even as the testimony of Iesus Christ was confermed in you) |
1:7 | so that ye are behynde in no gyft and wayte for the apperynge of oure lorde Iesus Christ |
1:8 | which shall streght you vnto ye ende that ye maye be blamelesse in ye daye of oure lorde Iesus Christ. |
1:9 | ffor god is faythfull by whom ye are called vnto ye fellishyppe of his sonne Iesus Christe oure lorde |
1:10 | I beseche you brethre in ye name of oure lorde Iesus Christ that ye all speake one thynge and that there be no dissencion amoge you: but be ye knyt together in one mynde and in one meaynge. |
1:11 | It is shewed vnto me (my brethren) of you by them that are of the housse of Cloe that ther is stryfe amonge you. And this is it that I meane: |
1:12 | how that comelie amonge you one sayeth: I holde of Paul: another I holde of Apollo: ye thyrde I holde of Cephas: ye four ye I holde of Christ. |
1:13 | Ys Christ devided? was Paul crucified for you? ether were ye baptised in ye name of Paul? |
1:14 | I thanke God that I christened none of you but Crispus and Gayus |
1:15 | lest eny shulde saye that I had baptised in myne awne name. |
1:16 | I baptised also the housse of Stephana. Forthermore knowe I not whether I baptised eny man or no. |
1:17 | For Christ sent me not to baptyse but to preache ye gospell not with wysdome of wordes lest the crosse of Christ shuld have bene made of none effecte. |
1:18 | For ye preachinge of the crosse is to them yt perisshe folishnes: but vnto vs which are saved it is ye power of God. |
1:19 | For it is written: I will destroye the wysdome of the wyse and will cast awaye the vnderstondinge of the prudet. |
1:20 | Where is the wyse? Where is the scrybe? Where is the searcher of this worlde? |
1:21 | Hath not God made the wysdome of this worlde folisshnes? For when the worlde thorow wysdome knew not God in ye wysdome of God: it pleased God thorow folisshnes of preachinge to save them yt beleve. |
1:22 | For ye Iewes requyre a signe and the Grekes seke after wysdome. |
1:23 | But we preache Christ crucified vnto the Iewes an occasion of fallinge and vnto the Grekes folisshnes: |
1:24 | but vnto the which are called both of Iewes and Grekes we preache Christ ye power of God and the wysdome of God. |
1:25 | For the folishnes of God is wyser then me: and the weakenes of God is stronger then men. |
1:26 | Brethren loke on youre callinge how that not many wyse men after the flesshe not many myghty not many of hye degre are called: |
1:27 | but God hath chosen the folysshe thinges of the worlde to confounde the wyse. And God hath chosyn the weake thinges of the worlde to confounde thinges which are mighty. |
1:28 | And vile thinges of the worlde and thinges which are despysed hath God chosen yee and thinges of no reputacion for to brynge to nought thinges of reputacion |
1:29 | that no flesshe shulde reioyce in his presence. |
1:30 | And vnto him partayne ye in Christ Iesu which of God is made vnto vs wysdome and also rightewesnes and saunctifyinge and redempcion. |
1:31 | That accordinge as it is written: he which reioyseth shulde reioyce in the Lorde. |
1:1 | Paul, called to be an Apostle of Iesus Christ thorow ye will of God, and brother Sosthenes, |
1:2 | vnto the congregacion off God which is at Corinthum, to them that are sanctified in Christ Iesus, sayntes by callinge, with all them that call vpon the name of oure LORDE Iesus Christ, in euery place both off theirs and oures. |
1:3 | Grace be with you and peace from God oure father, and from the LORDE Iesus Christ. |
1:4 | I thake my God allwayes on youre behalfe, for the fauoure of God which is geue you in Iesus Christ, |
1:5 | that in all poyntes ye are made ryche by him, in euery worde, and in all maner of knowlege |
1:6 | (eue as ye preachinge of Christ is confirmed in you) |
1:7 | so that ye wante nothinge in eny gifte, and wayte but for the appearinge of oure LORDE Iesus Christ: |
1:8 | which shal strength you also vnto ye ende, that ye maye be blamelesse in the daye of oure LORDE Iesus Christ. |
1:9 | For God is faithfull, by who ye are called vnto the fellishippe of his sonne Iesus Christ oure LORDE. |
1:10 | But I beseke you brethre thorow the name of oure LORDE Iesus Christ, that ye all speake one thinge, and let there be no discension amonge you, but that ye be perfecte in one meanynge. |
1:11 | For it is shewed me (my brethren) of you, by them which are of ye housholde of Cloes, that there is stryfe amonge you. I speake of that, |
1:12 | which euery one of you sayeth: I holde of Paul. Another, I holde of Apollo. The thirde, I holde of Cephas. The fourth, I holde off Christ. |
1:13 | Is Christ then deuyded in partes? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were ye baptysed in ye name of Paul? |
1:14 | I thanke God that I haue baptised none of you, but Crispus and Gaius: |
1:15 | lest eny shulde saye, yt I in myne awne name had baptised. |
1:16 | I baptysed also ye housholde of Stephana. Farthermore knowe I not, whether I baptysed eny other. |
1:17 | For Christ sent me not to baptyse, but to preach the Gospell, not with wyssdome of wordes, lest ye crosse of Christ shulde haue bene made of none effecte. |
1:18 | For the worde of ye crosse is foolishnesse to the that perishe but vnto vs which are saued, it is the power of God. |
1:19 | For it is wrytte: I wyl destroye the wyssdome of the wyse, & wil cast away the vnderstondinge of ye prudet. |
1:20 | Where are the wyse? Where are ye scrybes? where are ye disputers of this worlde? |
1:21 | Hath not God made the wyssdome of this worlde foolishnesse? For in so moch as the worlde by the wyssdome therof knewe not God in his wyssdome, it pleased God thorow foolish preachinge to saue them yt beleue. |
1:22 | For the Iewes requyre tokens, and the Grekes axe after wyssdome. |
1:23 | But we preach Christ the crucified: to the Iewes an occasion off fallinge, and vnto the Grekes foolishnes. |
1:24 | But vnto them that are called (both Iewes and Grekes) we preach Christ the power of God and the wyssdome off God. |
1:25 | For the foolishnes of God is wyser then men: and the weaknes of God is stroger the men. |
1:26 | Brethren loke on youre callinge, how that not many wyseme after the flesh, not many mightie, not many of hye degre are called: |
1:27 | but that foolish is before the worlde, hath God chosen, that he mighte cofounde the wyse: And that weake is before ye worlde, hath God chosen, yt he mighte confounde the mightye. |
1:28 | And the vyle and despysed before the worlde hath God chosen, yee and that which is nothinge, that he mighte destroye that which is oughte, |
1:29 | that no flesh shulde reioyse in his presence. |
1:30 | Of the same are ye also in Christ Iesu, which of God is made vnto vs wyssdome and righteousnes, and sanctifienge and redepcion, |
1:31 | that, acordinge as it is wrytten: He that reioyseth, shulde reioyse in the LORDE. |
