John - Chapter: 12

12:1Then Iesus, sixe dayes before the Passouer, came to Bethanie, where Lazarus was, which had bene dead, whom hee raised from the dead.
12:2There they made him a supper, and Martha serued: but Lazarus was one of them that sate at the table with him.
12:3Then tooke Mary a pound of ointment, of Spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Iesus, & wiped his feet with her haire: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
12:4Then saith one of his disciples, Iudas Iscariot, Simons sonne, which should betray him,
12:5Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and giuen to the poore?
12:6This he said, not that he cared for the poore: but because hee was a thiefe, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
12:7Then said Iesus, Let her alone, against the day of my burying hath she kept this.
12:8For the poore alwayes yee haue with you: but me ye haue not alwayes.
12:9Much people of the Iewes therefore knew that he was there: and they came, not for Iesus sake onely, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
12:10But the chiefe Priests consulted, that they might put Lazarus also to death,
12:11Because that by reason of him many of the Iewes went away and beleeued on Iesus.
12:12On the next day, much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Iesus was comming to Hierusalem,
12:13Tooke branches of Palme trees, and went foorth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna, blessed is the king of Israel that cometh in the Name of the Lord.
12:14And Iesus, when he had found a yong asse, sate thereon, as it is written,
12:15Feare not, daughter of Sion, behold, thy King commeth, sitting on an asses colt.
12:16These things vnderstood not his disciples at the first: but when Iesus was glorified, then remebred they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things vnto him.
12:17The people therefore that was with him, when he called Lazarus out of his graue, and raised him from the dead, bare record.
12:18For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that hee had done this miracle.
12:19The Pharisees therefore saide among themselues, Perceiue ye how yee preuaile nothing? Behold, the world is gone after him.
12:20And there were certaine Greeks among them, that came vp to worship at the feast:
12:21The same came therefore to Philip which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Iesus.
12:22Philip commeth and telleth Andrew: and againe Andrew and Philip told Iesus.
12:23And Iesus answered them, saying, The houre is come, that the Sonne of man should be glorified.
12:24Uerely, verely, I say vnto you, Except a corne of wheat fall into the ground, and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
12:25He that loueth his life, shall lose it: and hee that hateth his life in this world, shall keepe it vnto life eternall.
12:26If any man serue me, let him follow me, and where I am, there shall also my seruant be: If any man serue me, him will my father honour.
12:27Now is my soule troubled, and what shall I say? Father, saue me from this houre, but for this cause came I vnto this houre.
12:28Father, glorifie thy Name. Then came there a voice from heauen, saying, I haue both glorified it, and wil glorifie it againe.
12:29The people therefore that stood by, and heard it, said, that it thundered: others said, An Angel spake to him.
12:30Iesus answered, and said, This voice came not because of mee, but for your sakes.
12:31Now is the iudgement of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
12:32And I, if I be lifted vp from the earth, will draw all men vnto me.
12:33(This hee said, signifying what death he should die)
12:34The people answered him, We haue heard out of the Law, that Christ abideth for euer: and how sayest thou, The Sonne of man must bee lift vp? Who is this Sonne of man?
12:35Then Iesus said vnto them, Yet a little while is the light with you: walke while ye haue the light, lest darkdesse come vpon you: For he that walketh in darkenesse, knoweth not whither he goeth.
12:36While ye haue light, beleeue in the light, that ye may bee the children of light. These things spake Iesus, and departed, and did hide himselfe from them.
12:37But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they beleeued not on him:
12:38That the saying of Esaias the Prophet might be fulfilled, which hee spake, Lord, who hath beleeued our report? and to whom hath the arme of the Lord beene reuealed?
12:39Therefore they could not beleeue, because that Esaias said againe,
12:40He hath blinded their eyes, and hardned their heart, that they should not see with their eyes, nor vnderstand with their heart, and be conuerted, and I should heale them.
12:41These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
12:42Neuerthelesse, among the chiefe rulers also, many beleeued on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confesse him, lest they should be put out of the Synagogue.
12:43For they loued the praise of men, more then the praise of God.
12:44Iesus cried, and said, He that beleeueth on me, beleeueth not on me, but on him that sent me.
12:45And he that seeth me, seeth him that sent me.
12:46I am come a light into the world, that whosoeuer beleeueth on me, should not abide in darkenesse.
12:47And if any man heare my words, and beleeue not, I iudge him not; For I came not to iudge the world, but to saue the world.
12:48He that reiecteth me, and receiueth not my words, hath one that iudgeth him: ye word that I haue spoken, the same shall iudge him in the last day.
12:49For I haue not spoken of my selfe; but the Father which sent me, he gaue me a commaundement what I should say, and what I should speake.
12:50And I know that his commandement is life euerlasting: whatsoeuer I speake therefore, euen as the Father said vnto me, so I speake.

12:1Sixe dayes before Easter came Iesus vnto Bethanye, where Lazarus was, which was deed, whom Iesus raysed vp from the deed.
12:2There they made him a supper, and Martha serued. But Lazarus was one of them, that sat at the table with him.
12:3Then toke Mary a pounde of oyntment of pure and costly Nardus, and anoynted Iesus fete, & dryed his fete with hir heer. The house was full of the sauoure of the oyntment.
12:4Then sayde one of his disciples, Iudas Iscarioth Symons sonne, which afterwarde betrayed him:
12:5Why was not this oyntment solde for thre hundreth pens, and geuen to the poore?
12:6(This sayde he not that he cared for the poore, but because he was a thefe, and had the bagge, and bare that which was geue.)
12:7Then sayde Iesus: Let her alone, this hath she kepte agaynst the daye of my buryenge.
12:8For the poore haue ye allwaye with you, but me haue ye not allwaye.
12:9Then moch people of the Iewes had knowlege, that he was there, and they came not for Iesus sake onely, but also yt they might se Lazarus, whom he had raysed from the deed.
12:10But ye hye prestes were aduysed to put Lazarus to death also:
12:11because yt for his sake many of the Iewes wete awaye and beleued on Iesus.
12:12Vpon the nexte daye moch people which were come vnto the feast, whan they herde that Iesus came towarde Ierusalem,
12:13they toke braunches of palme trees, and wete out to mete him, and cryed: Hosianna, Blessed be he, that in the name of the LORDE commeth kynge of Israel.
12:14Iesus gat a yonge Asse, and rode theron, As it is wrytte:
12:15Feare not thou doughter of Sion, beholde, thy kynge cometh rydinge vpo an Asses foale.
12:16Neuertheles his disciples vnderstode not these thinges at the first, but whan Iesus was glorified, then remebred they that soch thinges were wrytte of him, and that they had done soch thinges vnto him.
12:17The people that was with him whan he called Lazarus out of ye graue and raysed him from the deed, commended the acte.
12:18Therfore the people met him, because they herde, that he had done soch a miracle.
12:19But the pharises sayde amonge them selues: Ye se, that we preuayle nothinge, beholde, all ye worlde runneth after him.
12:20There were certayne Grekes (amonge the that were come vp to Ierusale to worshipe at the feast)
12:21the same came vnto Philippe, which was of Bethsaida out of Galile, & prayed him, and sayde: Syr, we wolde fayne se Iesus.
12:22Philippe came, & tolde Andrew. And agayne, Philippe and Andrew tolde Iesus.
12:23Iesus answered the, and sayde: The houre is come, that the sonne of man must be glorified.
12:24Verely verely I saye vnto you: Excepte the wheatcorne fall in to the grounde, and dye, it bydeth alone: But yf it dye, it bryngeth forth moch frute.
12:25He that loueth his life, shal lose it: and he that hateth his life in this worlde, shal kepe it vnto life euerlastinge.
12:26He that wyl serue me, let him folowe me. And where I am, there shal my seruaunt be also: and he that serueth me, him shal my father honoure.
12:27Now is my soule heuy, and what shal I saye? Father, helpe me out of this houre. But therfore am I come in to this houre.
12:28Father, glorifye thy name. Then came there a voyce from heauen: I haue glorified it, and wyl glorifye it agayne.
12:29Then sayde the people that stode by and herde: It thondereth. Other sayde: An angell spake vnto him.
12:30Iesus answered, and sayde: This voyce came not because of me, but for youre sakes.
12:31Now goeth the iudgment ouer the worlde. Now shal the prynce of this worlde be thrust out.
12:32And I whan I am lift vp from the earth, wyl drawe all vnto me.
12:33(But this he sayde, to signifye, what death he shulde dye.)
12:34Then answered him the people: We haue herde in the lawe, that Christ endureth for euer: and how sayest thou then, that the sonne of man must be lift vp? Who is this sonne of man?
12:35Then sayde Iesus vnto them: The light is yet a litle whyle with you, walke whyle ye haue the light, that the darknesse fall not vpo you. He that walketh in the darknesse, woteth not whither he goeth.
12:36Beleue ye on the light, whyle ye haue it, that ye maye be the children of light. These thinges spake Iesus, and departed awaye, and hyd himself from them.
12:37And though he had done soch tokens before the, yet beleued they not on him,
12:38that the sayenge of Esay the prophet might be fulfylled, which he spake: LORDE, who beleueth oure preachinge? Or to whom is the arme of the LORDE opened?
12:39Therfore coulde they not beleue, for Esay saide agayne:
12:40He hath blynded their eyes, and hardened their hert, that they shulde not se with the eyes, ner vnderstonde with the hert, & shulde be conuerted, and he shulde heale them.
12:41This sayde Esay, whan he sawe his glory, and spake of him.
12:42Neuertheles many of the chefe rulers beleued on him, but because of the Pharises they wolde not be aknowne of it, lest they shulde be excommunicate,
12:43For they loued more the prayse with men, then with God.
12:44Iesus cryed and sayde: He that beleueth on me, beleueth not on me, but on him that sent me.
12:45And he that seyth me, seyth him yt sent me.
12:46I am come a light in to the worlde, that whosoeuer beleueth on me, shulde not byde in darknesse.
12:47And he that heareth my wordes and beleueth not, I iudge him not, for I am not come to iudge the worlde, but to saue the worlde.
12:48He that refuseth me, and receaueth not my wordes, hath one allready that iudgeth him. The worde that I haue spoken, that shall iudge him at the last daye,
12:49For I haue not spoken of my self: but the father that sent me, hath geuen me a commaundement, what I shulde do and saye.
12:50And I knowe that his commaundement is life euerlastinge. Therfore loke what I speake, that speake I eue so, as the father hath sayde vnto me.

12:1Therfor Jhesus bifor sixe daies of pask cam to Bethanye, where Lazarus hadde be deed, whom Jhesus reiside.
12:2And thei maden to hym a soopere there, and Martha mynystride to hym; and Lazarus was oon of men that saten at the mete with hym.
12:3Therfor Marie took a pound of oynement of trewe narde precious, and anoyntide the feet of Jhesu, and wipte hise feet with hir heeris; and the hous was fulfillid of the sauour of the oynement.
12:4Therfor Judas Scarioth, oon of hise disciplis, that was to bitraye hym,
12:5seide, Whi is not this oynement seeld for thre hundrid pens, and is youun to nedi men?
12:6But he seide this thing, not for it perteynede to hym of nedi men, but for he was a theef, and he hadde the pursis, and bar tho thingis that weren sent.
12:7Therfor Jhesus seide, Suffre ye hir, that in to the day of my biriyng sche kepe that;
12:8for ye schulen euermore haue pore men with you, but ye schulen not euermore haue me.
12:9Therfore myche puple of Jewis knew, that Jhesus was there; and thei camen, not oonli for Jhesu, but to se Lazarus, whom he hadde reisid fro deth.
12:10But the princis of prestis thouyten to sle Lazarus,
12:11for manye of the Jewis wenten awei for him, and bileueden in Jhesu.
12:12But on the morew a myche puple, that cam togidere to the feeste dai, whanne thei hadden herd, that Jhesus cam to Jerusalem,
12:13token braunchis of palmes, and camen forth ayens hym, and crieden, Osanna, blessid is the kyng of Israel, that cometh in the name of the Lord.
12:14And Jhesus foond a yonge asse, and sat on hym,
12:15as it is writun, The douytir of Syon, nyle thou drede; lo! thi kyng cometh, sittynge on `an asse fole.
12:16Hise disciplis knewen not first these thingis, but whanne Jhesus was glorified, thanne thei hadden mynde, for these thingis weren writun of hym, and these thingis thei diden to hym.
12:17Therfor the puple bar witnessyng, that was with hym, whanne he clepide Lazarus fro the graue, and reiside hym fro deth.
12:18And therfor the puple cam, and mette with hym, for thei herden that he hadde don this signe.
12:19Therfor the Farisees seiden to hem silf, Ye seen, that we profiten no thing; lo! al the world wente aftir hym.
12:20And there weren summe hethene men, of hem that hadden come vp to worschipe in the feeste dai.
12:21And these camen to Filip, that was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and preieden hym, and seiden, Sire, we wolen se Jhesu.
12:22Filip cometh, and seith to Andrew; eft Andrew and Filip seiden to Jhesu.
12:23And Jhesus answerde `to hem, and seide, The our cometh, that mannus sone be clarified.
12:24Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, but a corn of whete falle in to the erthe, and be deed, it dwellith aloone;
12:25but if it be deed, it bryngith myche fruyt. He that loueth his lijf, schal leese it; and he that hatith his lijf in this world, kepith it in to euerlastynge lijf.
12:26If ony man serue me, sue he me; and where Y am, there my mynystre schal be. If ony man serue me, my fadir schal worschipe hym.
12:27Now my soule is troublid, and what schal Y seie? Fadir, saue me fro this our; but therfor Y cam in to this our;
12:28fadir, clarifie thi name. And a vois cam fro heuene, and seide, And Y haue clarified, and eft Y schal clarifie.
12:29Therfor the puple that stood, and herde, seide, that `thundur was maad; othere men seide, an aungel spak to hym.
12:30Jhesus answerde, and seide, This vois cam not for me, but for you.
12:31Now is the doom of the world, now the prince of this world schal be cast out.
12:32And if Y schal be enhaunsid fro the erthe, Y schal drawe alle thingis to my silf.
12:33And he seide this thing, signifiynge bi what deth he `was to die.
12:34And the puple answeride to hym, We han herd of the lawe, that Crist dwellith with outen ende; and hou seist thou, It bihoueth mannys sone to be arerid?
12:35Who is this mannus sone? And thanne Jhesus seith to hem, Yit a litil liyt is in you; walke ye, the while ye han liyt, that derknessis catche you not; he that wandrith in derknessis, woot nere whidur he goith.
12:36While ye han liyt, bileue ye in liyt, that ye be the children of liyt. Jhesus spak these thingis, and wente, and hidde hym fro hem.
12:37And whanne he hadde don so many myraclis bifor hem, thei bileueden not `in to hym;
12:38that the word of Ysaie, the prophete, schulde be fulfillid, which he seide, Lord, who bileuede to oure heryng, and to whom is the arm of the Lord schewid?
12:39Therfor thei myyten not bileue, for eft Ysaye seide,
12:40He hath blyndid her iyen, and he hath maad hard the herte of hem, that thei se not with iyen, and vndurstonde with herte; and that thei be conuertid, and Y heele hem.
12:41Ysaye seide these thingis, whanne he say the glorie of hym, and spak of hym.
12:42Netheles `of the pryncis manye bileueden in hym, but for the Farisees thei knowlechiden not, that thei schulden not be put out of the synagoge;
12:43for thei loueden the glorie of men, more than the glorie of God.
12:44And Jhesus criede, and seide, He that bileueth in me, bileueth not in me, but in hym that sente me.
12:45He that seeth me, seeth hym that sente me.
12:46Y liyt cam in to the world, that ech that bileueth in me, dwelle not in derknessis.
12:47And if ony man herith my words, and kepith hem, Y deme hym not; for Y cam not, that Y deme the world, but that Y make the world saaf.
12:48He that dispisith me, and takith not my wordis, hath hym that schal iuge hym; thilke word that Y haue spokun, schal deme hym in the last dai.
12:49For Y haue not spokun of my silf, but thilke fadir that sente me, yaf to me a maundement, what Y schal seie, and what Y schal speke.
12:50And Y woot, that his maundement is euerlastynge lijf; therfor tho thingis that Y speke, as the fadir seide to me, so Y speke.
