Matthew - Chapter: 26

26:1And it came to pass, when Jesus finished all these words, he said to his disciples,
26:2`Ye have known that after two days the passover cometh, and the Son of Man is delivered up to be crucified.'
26:3Then were gathered together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, to the court of the chief priest who was called Caiaphas;
26:4and they consulted together that they might take Jesus by guile, and kill `him',
26:5and they said, `Not in the feast, that there may not be a tumult among the people.'
26:6And Jesus having been in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
26:7there came to him a woman having an alabaster box of ointment, very precious, and she poured on his head as he is reclining (at meat).
26:8And having seen `it', his disciples were much displeased, saying, `To what purpose `is' this waste?
26:9for this ointment could have been sold for much, and given to the poor.'
26:10And Jesus having known, said to them, `Why do ye give trouble to the woman? for a good work she wrought for me;
26:11for the poor always ye have with you, and me ye have not always;
26:12for she having put this ointment on my body -- for my burial she did `it'.
26:13Verily I say to you, Wherever this good news may be proclaimed in the whole world, what this `one' did shall also be spoken of -- for a memorial of her.'
26:14Then one of the twelve, who is called Judas Iscariot, having gone unto the chief priests, said,
26:15`What are ye willing to give me, and I will deliver him up to you?' and they weighed out to him thirty silverlings,
26:16and from that time he was seeking a convenient season to deliver him up.
26:17And on the first `day' of the unleavened food came the disciples near to Jesus, saying to him, `Where wilt thou `that' we may prepare for thee to eat the passover?'
26:18and he said, `Go away to the city, unto such a one, and say to him, The Teacher saith, My time is nigh; near thee I keep the passover, with my disciples;'
26:19and the disciples did as Jesus appointed them, and prepared the passover.
26:20And evening having come, he was reclining (at meat) with the twelve,
26:21and while they are eating, he said, `Verily I say to you, that one of you shall deliver me up.'
26:22And being grieved exceedingly, they began to say to him, each of them, `Is it I, Sir?'
26:23And he answering said, `He who did dip with me the hand in the dish, he will deliver me up;
26:24the Son of Man doth indeed go, as it hath been written concerning him, but wo to that man through whom the Son of Man is delivered up! good it were for him if that man had not been born.'
26:25And Judas -- he who delivered him up -- answering said, `Is it I, Rabbi?' He saith to him, `Thou hast said.'
26:26And while they were eating, Jesus having taken the bread, and having blessed, did brake, and was giving to the disciples, and said, `Take, eat, this is my body;'
26:27and having taken the cup, and having given thanks, he gave to them, saying, `Drink ye of it -- all;
26:28for this is my blood of the new covenant, that for many is being poured out -- to remission of sins;
26:29and I say to you, that I may not drink henceforth on this produce of the vine, till that day when I may drink it with you new in the reign of my Father.'
26:30And having sung a hymn, they went forth to the mount of the Olives;
26:31then saith Jesus to them, `All ye shall be stumbled at me this night; for it hath been written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad;
26:32but, after my having risen, I will go before you to Galilee.'
26:33And Peter answering said to him, `Even if all shall be stumbled at thee, I will never be stumbled.'
26:34Jesus said to him, `Verily I say to thee, that, this night, before cock-crowing, thrice thou wilt deny me.'
26:35Peter saith to him, `Even if it may be necessary for me to die with thee, I will not deny thee;' in like manner also said all the disciples.
26:36Then come with them doth Jesus to a place called Gethsemane, and he saith to the disciples, `Sit ye here, till having gone away, I shall pray yonder.'
26:37And having taken Peter, and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful, and to be very heavy;
26:38then saith he to them, `Exceedingly sorrowful is my soul -- unto death; abide ye here, and watch with me.'
26:39And having gone forward a little, he fell on his face, praying, and saying, `My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as Thou.'
26:40And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them sleeping, and he saith to Peter, `So! ye were not able one hour to watch with me!
26:41watch, and pray, that ye may not enter into temptation: the spirit indeed is forward, but the flesh weak.'
26:42Again, a second time, having gone away, he prayed, saying, `My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from me except I drink it, Thy will be done;'
26:43and having come, he findeth them again sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.
26:44And having left them, having gone away again, he prayed a third time, saying the same word;
26:45then cometh he unto his disciples, and saith to them, `Sleep on henceforth, and rest! lo, the hour hath come nigh, and the Son of Man is delivered up to the hands of sinners.
26:46Rise, let us go; lo, he hath come nigh who is delivering me up.'
26:47And while he is yet speaking, lo, Judas, one of the twelve did come, and with him a great multitude, with swords and sticks, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
26:48And he who did deliver him up did give them a sign, saying, `Whomsoever I will kiss, it is he: lay hold on him;'
26:49and immediately, having come to Jesus, he said, `Hail, Rabbi,' and kissed him;
26:50and Jesus said to him, `Comrade, for what art thou present?' Then having come near, they laid hands on Jesus, and took hold on him.
26:51And lo, one of those with Jesus, having stretched forth the hand, drew his sword, and having struck the servant of the chief priest, he took off his ear.
26:52Then saith Jesus to him, `Turn back thy sword to its place; for all who did take the sword, by the sword shall perish;
26:53dost thou think that I am not able now to call upon my Father, and He will place beside me more than twelve legions of messengers?
26:54how then may the Writings be fulfilled, that thus it behoveth to happen?'
26:55In that hour said Jesus to the multitudes, `As against a robber ye did come forth, with swords and sticks, to take me! daily with you I was sitting teaching in the temple, and ye did not lay hold on me;
26:56but all this hath come to pass, that the Writings of the prophets may be fulfilled;' then all the disciples, having left him, fled.
26:57And those laying hold on Jesus led `him' away unto Caiaphas the chief priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together,
26:58and Peter was following him afar off, unto the court of the chief priest, and having gone in within, he was sitting with the officers, to see the end.
26:59And the chief priests, and the elders, and all the council, were seeking false witness against Jesus, that they might put him to death,
26:60and they did not find; and many false witnesses having come near, they did not find; and at last two false witnesses having come near,
26:61said, `This one said, I am able to throw down the sanctuary of God, and after three days to build it.'
26:62And the chief priest having stood up, said to him, `Nothing thou dost answer! what do these witness against thee?
26:63and Jesus was silent. And the chief priest answering said to him, `I adjure thee, by the living God, that thou mayest say to us, if thou art the Christ -- the Son of God.'
26:64Jesus saith to him, `Thou hast said; nevertheless I say to you, hereafter ye shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the power, and coming upon the clouds, of the heaven.'
26:65Then the chief priest rent his garments, saying, -- `He hath spoken evil; what need have we yet of witnesses? lo, now ye heard his evil speaking;
26:66what think ye?' and they answering said, `He is worthy of death.'
26:67Then did they spit in his face and buffet him, and others did slap,
26:68saying, `Declare to us, O Christ, who he is that struck thee?'
26:69And Peter without was sitting in the court, and there came near to him a certain maid, saying, `And thou wast with Jesus of Galilee!'
26:70And he denied before all, saying, `I have not known what thou sayest.'
26:71And he having gone forth to the porch, another female saw him, and saith to those there, `And this one was with Jesus of Nazareth;'
26:72and again did he deny with an oath -- `I have not known the man.'
26:73And after a little those standing near having come, said to Peter, `Truly thou also art of them, for even thy speech doth make thee manifest.'
26:74Then began he to anathematise, and to swear -- `I have not known the man;' and immediately did a cock crow,
26:75and Peter remembered the saying of Jesus, he having said to him -- `Before cock-crowing, thrice thou wilt deny me;' and having gone without, he did weep bitterly.

26:1And it came to passe when Iesus had fynisshed all these sayinges he sayd vnto his disciples:
26:2Ye knowe that after ii. dayes shalbe ester and the sonne of man shalbe delyvered to be crucified.
26:3Then assembled togedder the chefe prestes and the scribes and the elders of the people to the palice of the hye preste called Cayphas
26:4and heelde a counsell how they mygt take Iesus by suttelte and kyll him.
26:5But they sayd not on the holy daye lest eny vproure aryse amonge the people.
26:6When Iesus was in Bethany in the house of Symon the leper
26:7ther came vnto him a woman which had an alablaster boxe of precious oyntment and powred it on his heed as he sate at the bourde.
26:8When his disciples sawe that they had indignacion sayinge: what neded this wast?
26:9This oyntmet myght have bene well solde and geven to the povre.
26:10When Iesus vnderstod that he sayde vnto the: why trouble ye the woman? She hath wrought a good worke apon me.
26:11For ye shall have povre folcke alwayes with you: but me shall ye not have all wayes.
26:12And in yt she casted this oyntment on my bodye she dyd it to burye me wt all.
26:13Verely I saye vnto you wheresoever this gospell shalbe preached throughoute all the worlde there shall also this that she hath done be tolde for a memoriall of her.
26:14Then one of the twelve called Iudas Iscarioth went vnto the chefe prestes
26:15and sayd: what will ye geve me and I will deliver him vnto you? And they apoynted vnto him thirty peces of sylver.
26:16And from that tyme he sought oportunite to betraye him.
26:17The fyrst daye of swete breed ye disciples cam to Iesus sayinge vnto him: where wylt thou that we prepare for ye to eate ye paschall lambe?
26:18And he sayd: Go into the cite vnto soche a man and saye to him: the master sayeth my tyme is at hande I will kepe myne ester at thy housse with my disciples.
26:19And the disciples did as Iesus had apoynted them and made redy the esterlambe.
26:20When the even was come he sate doune wt the .xii.
26:21And as they dyd eate he sayde: Verely I saye vnto you that one of you shall betraye me.
26:22And they were excedinge sorowfull and beganne every one of the to saye vnto him: is it I master?
26:23He answered and sayde: he yt deppeth his honde wt me in ye disshe the same shall betraye me.
26:24The sonne of ma goeth as it is written of him: but wo be to yt ma by whom ye sonne of man shalbe betrayed. It had bene good for that man yf he had never bene borne.
26:25Then Iudas wich betrayed him answered and sayde: is it I master? He sayde vnto him: thou hast sayde.
26:26As they dyd eate Iesus toke breed and gave thankes brake it and gave it to the disciples and sayde: Take eate this is my body.
26:27And he toke the cup and thanked and gave it them sayinge: drinke of it every one.
26:28For this is my bloude of the new testament that shalbe shedde for many for the remission of synnes.
26:29I saye vnto you: I will not drinke hence forth of this frute of the vyne tree vntyll that daye when I shall drinke it new with you in my fathers kyngdome.
26:30And when they had sayde grace they went out into mounte olyvete.
26:31Then sayd Iesus vnto them: all ye shall be offended by me this night. For it is wrytten. I will smyte ye shepe herde and the shepe of ye flocke shalbe scattered abroode.
26:32But after I am rysen ageyne I will goo before you into Galile.
26:33Peter answered and sayde vnto him: though all men shulde be offended by ye yet wolde I never be offended.
26:34Iesus sayde vnto him. Verely I saye vnto ye that this same night before the cocke crowe thou shalt denye me thryse.
26:35Peter sayde vnto him: Yf I shulde dye with ye yet wolde I not denye ye Lyke wyse also sayde all ye disciples.
26:36Then went Iesus with them into a place which is called Gethsemane and sayde vnto the disciples syt ye here whyll I go and praye yonder.
26:37And he toke with him Peter and the two sonnes of zebede and began to wexe sorowfull and to be in an agonye.
26:38Then sayd Iesus vnto them: my soule is hevy even vnto the deeth. Tary ye here and watche wt me.
26:39And he went a lytell aparte and fell flat on his face and prayed sayinge: O my father yf it be possible let this cuppe passe from me: neverthelesse not as I wyll but as thou wylt.
26:40And he came vnto the disciples and founde them a slepe and sayde to Peter: what coulde ye not watche with me one houre:
26:41watche and praye that ye fall not into temptacion. The spirite is willynge but the flesshe is weake.
26:42He went awaye once moare and prayed sayinge: O my father yf this cuppe can not passe away from me but yt I drinke of it thy wyll be fulfylled.
26:43And he came and founde the a slepe agayne. For their eyes were hevy.
26:44And he lefte them and went agayne and prayed ye thrid tyme sayinge ye same wordes.
26:45Then came he to his disciples and sayd vnto them: Slepe hence forth and take youre reest. Take hede the houre is at honde and ye sonne of man shalbe betrayed into ye hondes of synners.
26:46Ryse let vs be goinge: beholde he is at honde yt shall betraye me.
26:47Whyll he yet spake: lo Iudas one of ye xii. came and wt him a greate multitude wt sweardes and staves sent from the chefe prestes and elders of the people.
26:48And he that betrayed him had geven the a token sayinge: whosoever I kysse yt same is he ley hondes on him.
26:49And forth wt all he came to Iesus and sayde: hayle master and kyssed him.
26:50And Iesus sayde vnto him: frende wherfore arte thou come? Then came they and layed hondes on Iesus and toke him.
26:51And beholde one of them which were with Iesus stretched oute his honde and drue his swearde and stroke a servaunt of the hye preste and smote of his eare.
26:52Then sayde Iesus vnto him: put vp thy swearde into his sheathe. For all that ley hond on ye swearde shall perisshe with ye swearde.
26:53Ether thinkest thou that I cannot now praye to my father and he shall geve me moo then .xii. legions of angelles?
26:54But how then shuld the scriptures be fulfylled: for so must it be.
26:55The same tyme sayd Iesus to the multitude: ye be come out as it were vnto a thefe with sweardes and staves for to take me. I sate daylie teachinge in the temple amoge you and ye toke me not.
26:56All this was done that the scriptures of the Prophetes myght be fulfilled.
26:57Then all the disciples forsoke him and fleed. And they toke Iesus and leed him to Cayphas the hye preeste where the Scribes and the Elders where assembled.
26:58And Peter folowed him a farre of vnto the hye prestes place: and went in and sate with the servauntes to se the ende.
26:59The chefe prestes and the elders and all the counsell sought false witnes agenste Iesus for to put him to deeth
26:60but founde none: in somoche that when many false witnesses cam yet founde they none. At the last came two false witnesses
26:61and sayd: This felowe sayde: I can distroye the temple of God and bylde it agayne in .iii. dayes.
26:62And the chefe preste arose and sayde to him: answerest thou nothinge? How is it yt these beare witnes ageynst the?
26:63But Iesus helde his peace: And the chefe Preeste answered and sayd to him: I charge the in the name of the lyvinge God that thou tell vs whether thou be Christ the sonne of God.
26:64Iesus sayd to him: thou haste sayd. Neverthelesse I saye vnto you hereafter shall ye se the sonne of ma syttinge on the right honde of power and come in the clowddes of the skye.
26:65Then the hye preste rent his clothes sayinge: He hath blasphemed: what nede we of eny moo witnesses? Behold now ye have hearde his blasphemy:
26:66what thinke ye? They answered and sayd: he his worthy to dye.
26:67Then spat they in his face and boffeted him with fistes. And other smote him with the palme af their hondes
26:68on ye face sayinge: tell vs thou Christ who is he that smote the?
26:69Peter sate with out in the palice. And a damsell came to him sayinge: Thou also waste wt Iesus of Galilee:
26:70but he denyed before the all sayinge: I woot not what thou sayst.
26:71When he was goone out into the poorche another wenche sawe him and sayde vnto them that were there: This felowe was also with Iesus of Nazareth.
26:72And agayne he denyed with an oothe that he knew the man.
26:73And after a whyle came vnto him they yt stode bye and sayde vnto Peter: suerly thou arte even one of the for thy speache bewreyeth ye.
26:74Then beganne he to course and to sweare that he knewe not the man. And immedyatly the cocke krewe.
26:75And Peter remembred the wordes of Iesu which sayde vnto him: before the cocke crowe thou shalt deny me thryse: and went out at the dores and wepte bitterly.

26:1And it came to passe wha Iesus had fynished all these wordes, he sayde vnto his disciples:
26:2Ye knowe, that after two dayes shalbe Easter, and the sonne of man shalbe delyuered to be crucified.
26:3Then assembled together the hye prestes and the scrybes, and the elders of the people in to the palace of the hye prest which was called Caiphas,
26:4and helde a councell, how they might take Iesus by disceate, and kyll him.
26:5But they sayde: Not on the holy daye, lest there be an vproure in the people.
26:6Now when Iesus was at Bethany in the house of Symon the leper,
26:7there came vnto hi a woman, which had a boxe with precious oyntment, and poured it vpon his heade, as he sat at the table.
26:8Whan his disciples sawe that, they dissdayned, and sayde: Where to serueth this waist?
26:9This oyntmet might haue bene wel solde, and geue to the poore.
26:10Whe Iesus perceaued that, he sayde vnto them: Why trouble ye the woman? She hath wrought a good worke vpon me
26:11for ye haue allwaye the poore with you, but me shal ye not haue allwayes.
26:12Where as she hath poured this oyntmet vpon my body, she dyd it to bury me.
26:13Verely I saye vnto you: where so euer this gospell shalbe preached thorow out all the worlde, there shal this also that she hath done, be tolde for a memoriall of her.
26:14Then one of the twolue (called Iudas Iscarioth) wente vnto the hye prestes,
26:15and sayde: What wil ye geue me, and I shal delyuer him vnto you? And they offred hi thirtie syluer pens.
26:16And from that tyme forth, he sought oportunyte to betraye him?
26:17The first daye of swete bred came the disciples to Iesus, and sayde vnto him: Where wilt thou that we prepare for the, to eate the Easter lambe?
26:18He sayde: Go in to the cite to soch a man, and saye vnto him: The Master sendeth the worde: My tyme is at honde, I wil kepe myne Easter by the with my disciples.
26:19And the disciples dyd as Iesus had appoynted them, and made ready the Easter lambe.
26:20And at euen he sat downe at the table with the twolue.
26:21And as they ate, he sayde: Verely I saye vnto you: One of you shal betraye me.
26:22And they were exceadinge soroufull, and beganne euery one of them to saye vnto him: Syr, is it I?
26:23He answered and sayde: He that deppeth his honde with me in the dysshe, the same shal betraye me.
26:24The sonne of man goeth forth, as it is wrytten of him: but wo vnto that man by who the sonne of man shalbe betrayed: It had bene better for that ma, yf he had neuer bene borne.
26:25The Iudas that betrayed him, answered and sayde: Master, is it I? He sayde vnto: him Thou hast sayde.
26:26And as they ate, Iesus toke the bred, gaue thankes, brake it, and gaue it to the disciples, and sayde: Take, eate, this is my body.
26:27And he toke the cuppe, and thanked, and gaue it the, and sayde: Drynke ye all therof,
26:28this is my bloude of the new testament, that shalbe shed for many for the remission of synnes.
26:29I saye vnto you: I wil not drynke hence forth of this frute of the vyne tre, vntill that daye that I shal drynke it new with you in my fathers kyngdome.
26:30And whan they had sayde grace, they wente forth vnto mount Oliuete.
26:31Then sayde Iesus vnto them. This night shal ye all be offended in me. For it is wrytten: I wil smyte the shepherde, and the shepe of the flocke shalbe scatered abrode.
26:32But after that I ryse agayne, I wil go before you in to Galile.
26:33Peter answered and sayde vnto him: Though all men shulde be offended in ye, yet wyl I neuer be offeded.
26:34Iesus sayde vnto hi: Verely I saye vnto ye: This same night before ye cock crowe, shalt thou denie me thryse.
26:35Peter saide vnto him: And though I shulde dye with the, yet wil I not denye the. Likewyse also sayde all the disciples.
26:36Then came Iesus with them into a felde which is called Gethsemane, and sayde vnto the disciples: Syt ye here, whyle I go yonder & praye.
26:37And he toke with him Peter, and the two sonnes of Zebede, and beganne to wexe soroufull and to be in an agonye.
26:38Then sayde Iesus vnto them: My soule is heuy euen vnto the death. Tary ye here, and watch with me.
26:39And he wente forth a litle, and fell flat vpon his face, and prayed sayenge: O my father, yf it be possible, let this cuppe passe fro me: neuertheles not as I wil but as thou wilt.
26:40And he came to his disciples, and founde the a slepe, & sayde vnto Peter: What? coude ye not watch with me one houre?
26:41Watch & praye, that ye fall not in to temptacion. The sprete is wyllinge, but the flesh is weake.
26:42Agayne, he wete forth the seconde tyme and prayed, sayenge: O my father, yf this cuppe can not passe awaye fro me (excepte I drynke of it) thy will be fulfilled.
26:43And he came, and founde them a slepe agayne, and their eyes were heuy.
26:44And he left them, and wente forth agayne, and prayed the thirde tyme, sayenge the same wordes.
26:45Then came he to his disciples, and sayde vnto them: Slepe on now, and take youre rest. Beholde, the houre is come, yt the sonne of man shalbe delyuered in to the hondes of synners:
26:46Aryse, let us be goynge. Beholde, he is at hode, that betrayeth me.
26:47Whyle he yet spake, lo, Iudas one of the twolue came, and with him a greate multitude with swerdes and staues, sent fro the hye prestes and elders of the people.
26:48And he that betrayed him, had geuen them a toke, sayenge: Whom so euer I kysse, that same is he, laye hodes vpo him.
26:49And forth withal he came to Iesus, and sayde: Hayle master, and kyssed him.
26:50And Iesus sayde vnto him: Frende, wherfore art thou come? Then came they, and layed hondes vpon Iesus, and toke him.
26:51And beholde, one of them that were with Iesus, stretched out his honde, and drue his swerde, and stroke a seruaunt of the hye prestes, & smote of his eare:
26:52Then sayde Iesus vnto him: Put vp yi swerde in to his place. For all that take the swerde, shal perish with the swerde.
26:53Or thinkest thou that I can not praye my father now, to sende me more then twolue legions of angels?
26:54But how the shulde the scriptures be fulfylled? For thus must it be.
26:55In the same houre sayde Iesus vnto the multitude: Ye are come out as it were to a murthurer with swerdes and staues for to take me. I sat daylie teachinge in the temple amonge you, and ye toke me not.
26:56But all this is done, that the scriptures of the prophetes might be fulfylled.
26:57The all the disciples left him, and fled. But they that toke Iesus, led him to Caiphas the hye prest, where the scrybes and the elders were gathered together.
26:58As for Peter, he folowed him a farre of vnto the hye prestes palace, & wente in, and sat with the seruauntes, that he might se the ende.
26:59But the hye prestes and the elders, and the whole councell sought false wytnesse ageynst Iesus, that they might put him to death,
26:60and founde none. And though many false wytnesses stepte forth, yet founde they none. At the last there stepte forth two false wytnesses,
26:61& spake: He sayde: I can breake downe the temple of God, and buylde it agayne in thre dayes.
26:62And the hye prest stode vp, and sayde vnto him: Answerest thou nothinge, vnto it, that these testifie agaynst the?
26:63Neuertheles Iesus helde his tonge. And the hye prest answered, and sayde vnto him: I charge the by ye lyuynge God, that thou tell us, yf thou be Christ the sonne of God.
