Jay P. Green's Literal Translation 1993

13:1So says Jehovah to me, Go and buy for yourself a linen band, and put it on your loins, and do not put it in water.
13:2So I bought a band according to the word of Jehovah and put it on my loins.
13:3And the word of Jehovah came to me a second time, saying,
13:4Take the band that you bought, which is on your loins, and rise up. Go to Euphrates and hide it there in the cleft of the rock.
13:5So I went and hid it by Euphrates, as Jehovah commanded me.
13:6And it happened at the end of many days, Jehovah said to me, Rise up, go to Euphrates and take the band from there, which I commanded you to hide there.
13:7And I went to Euphrates and dug, and I took the band from the place, there where I had hidden it. And behold, the band was rotted! It was not useful for anything.
13:8Then the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,
13:9So says Jehovah, So I will spoil the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.
13:10This evil people who refuse to hear My words, who walk in the stubbornness of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them and to worship them, shall even be like this band which is not useful for anything.
13:11For as this band holds fast to the loins of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to Me, says Jehovah, to be to Me for a people, and for a name, and for praise, and for glory; but they would not listen.
13:12So you will speak to them this word: So says Jehovah, God of Israel, Every skin shall be filled with wine. And they shall say to you, Do we not know full well that every skin shall be filled with wine?
13:13Then you shall say to them, So says Jehovah, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit on David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.
13:14And I will smash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, declares Jehovah; I will not pity nor spare nor have compassion, to keep them from their destruction.
13:15Hear and give ear; do not be proud, for Jehovah has spoken.
13:16Give glory to Jehovah your God before He brings darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains. Yea, while you look for light, He puts it into death shade, setting up deep gloom.
13:17But if you will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride. And my eye shall bitterly weep and run down with tears, because the flock of Jehovah was captured.
13:18Say to the king and to the queen mother, Humble yourselves, sit down. For the crown of your glory will come down from your head places.
13:19The cities of the south have been shut up, and none are opening. Judah has been exiled; all of it has been peacefully exiled.
13:20Lift up your eyes and behold those who come from the north. Where is the flock that was given to you, your beautiful flock?
13:21What will you say when He visits you? For you taught them to be rulers over you for a head. Do not pangs seize you like a woman in travail?
13:22And if you say in your heart, Why do these things come upon me? It is because of the greatness of your iniquity. Your skirts are bared; your heels suffer violence.
13:23Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard his spots? Then you also may do good who are accustomed to doing evil.
13:24And I will scatter them as the stubble that passes away to the wilderness wind.
13:25This is your lot, the share of your measure from Me, declares Jehovah, because you have forgotten Me and have trusted in falsehood.
13:26So I also have stripped off your skirts over your face, that your shame may appear.
13:27I have seen your adulteries and your neighings, the plot of your infidelity, your abominations on the hills, in the fields. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! Will you not be made clean? Now long will it still be ?

Green's Literal Translation 1993

Green's Literal Translation (Literal Translation of the Holy Bible - LITV), is a translation of the Bible by Jay P. Green, Sr., first published in 1985. The LITV takes a literal, formal equivalence approach to translation. The Masoretic Text is used as the Hebrew basis for the Old Testament, and the Textus Receptus is used as the Greek basis for the New Testament.
