4:1 | And as they spake vnto the people, the Priests and the captaine of the Temple, and the Sadduces came vpon them, |
4:2 | Being grieued that they taught the people, and preached through Iesus the resurrection from the dead. |
4:3 | And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold vnto the next day: for it was now euentide. |
4:4 | Howbeit, many of them which heard the word, beleeued, and the number of the men was about fiue thousand. |
4:5 | And it came to passe on the morow, that their rulers, and Elders, and Scribes, |
4:6 | And Annas the high Priest, and Caiphas, and Iohn, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kinred of the high Priest, were gathered together at Hierusalem. |
4:7 | And when they had set them in the middest, they asked, By what power, or by what name haue ye done this? |
4:8 | Then Peter filled with the holy Ghost, said vnto them, Ye rulers of the people, and Elders of Israel, |
4:9 | If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what meanes he is made whole, |
4:10 | Be it knowen vnto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the Name of Iesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whome God raised from the dead, euen by him, doeth this man stand here before you, whole. |
4:11 | This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. |
4:12 | Neither is there saluation in any other: for there is none other name vnder heauen giuen among men whereby we must be saued. |
4:13 | Now when they sawe the boldnesse of Peter and Iohn, and perceiued that they were vnlearned and ignorant men, they marueiled, and they tooke knowledge of them, that they had bene with Iesus. |
4:14 | And beholding the man which was healed, standing with them, they could say nothing against it. |
4:15 | But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the Council, they conferred among themselues, |
4:16 | Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath bene done by them, is manifest to all them that dwell in Hierusalem, and we cannot denie it. |
4:17 | But that it spread no farther among the people, let vs straitly threaten them, that they speake henceforth to no man in this Name. |
4:18 | And they called them, and commanded them, not to speake at all, nor teach in the Name of Iesus. |
4:19 | But Peter and Iohn answered, and said vnto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God, to hearken vnto you more then vnto God, iudge ye. |
4:20 | For wee cannot but speake the things which we haue seene and heard. |
4:21 | So when they had further threatned them, they let them goe, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done. |
4:22 | For the man was aboue fourtie yeeres olde, on whome this miracle of healing was shewed. |
4:23 | And being let goe, they went to their owne company, and reported all that the chiefe Priests and Elders had said vnto them. |
4:24 | And when they heard that, they lift vp their voyce to God with one accord, & said, Lord, thou art God which hast made heauen and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is, |
4:25 | Who by the mouth of thy seruant Dauid hast saide, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vaine things? |
4:26 | The Kings of the earth stood vp, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, & against his Christ. |
4:27 | For of a trueth against thy holy child Iesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel were gathered together, |
4:28 | For to doe whatsoeuer thy hand and thy counsell determined before to be done. |
4:29 | And now Lord, behold their threatnings, and graunt vnto thy seruants, that with all boldnesse they may speake thy word, |
4:30 | By stretching foorth thine hand to heale: and that signes and wonders may be done by the Name of thy holy child Iesus. |
4:31 | And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together, and they were all filled with the holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldnesse. |
4:32 | And the multitude of them that beleeued, were of one heart, and of one soule: Neither said any of them, that ought of the things which he possessed, was his owne, but they had all things common. |
4:33 | And with great power gaue the Apostles witnesse of the resurrection of the Lord Iesus, and great grace was vpon them all. |
4:34 | Neither was there any among them that lacked: For as many as were possessors of lands, or houses, sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were solde, |
4:35 | And laide them downe at the Apostles feete: And distribution was made vnto euery man according as hee had neede. |
4:36 | And Ioses, who by the Apostles was surnamed Barnabas (which is, being interpreted, The sonne of consolation) a Leuite, and of the Countrey of Cyprus, |
4:37 | Hauing land, sold it, and brought the money, & laid it at the Apostles feet. |
4:1 | And as they spake vnto the people, the Priestes and the Captaine of the Temple, and the Sadduces came vpon them, |
4:2 | Taking it grieuously that they taught the people, and preached in Iesus Name the resurrection from the dead. |
4:3 | And they layde handes on them, and put them in holde, vntill the next day: for it was now euentide. |
4:4 | Howbeit, many of them which heard the word, beleeued, and the number of the men was about fiue thousand. |
4:5 | And it came to passe on the morow, that their rulers, and Elders, and Scribes, were gathered together at Hierusalem, |
4:6 | And Annas the chiefe Priest, and Caiaphas, and Iohn, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the hie Priestes. |
4:7 | And whe they had set them before them, they asked, By what power, or in what Name haue ye done this? |
4:8 | Then Peter ful of the holy Ghost, said vnto them, Ye rulers of the people, and Elders of Israel, |
4:9 | For as much as we this day are examined of the good deede done to the impotent man, to wit, by what meanes he is made whole, |
4:10 | Be it knowen vnto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye haue crucified, whome God raised againe from the dead, euen by him doth this man stand here before you, whole. |
4:11 | This is the stone cast aside of you builders which is become the head of the corner. |
4:12 | Neither is there saluation in any other: for among men there is giuen none other Name vnder heauen, whereby we must be saued. |
4:13 | Now when they sawe the boldnes of Peter and Iohn, and vnderstoode that they were vnlearned men and without knowledge, they marueiled, and knew them, that they had bin with Iesus: |
4:14 | And beholding also the man which was healed standing with them, they had nothing to say against it. |
4:15 | Then they commanded them to goe aside out of the Council, and conferred among themselues, |
4:16 | Saying, What shall we doe to these men? for surely a manifest signe is done by them, and it is openly knowen to all them that dwell in Hierusalem: and we cannot denie it. |
4:17 | But that it be noysed no farther among the people, let vs threaten and charge them, that they speake hencefoorth to no man in this Name. |
4:18 | So they called them, and commanded them, that in no wise they should speake or teach in the Name of Iesus. |
4:19 | But Peter and Iohn answered vnto them, and said, Whether it be right in the sight of God, to obey you rather then God, iudge ye. |
4:20 | For we cannot but speake the things which we haue seene and heard. |
4:21 | So they threatened them, and let them goe, and found nothing how to punish them, because of the people: for all men praised God for that which was done. |
4:22 | For the man was aboue fourtie yeeres olde, on whome this miracle of healing was shewed. |
4:23 | Then assoone as they were let goe, they came to their fellowes, and shewed all that the hie Priestes and Elders had said vnto them. |
4:24 | And when they heard it, they lift vp their voyces to God with one accord, and said, O Lord, thou art the God which hast made the heaue, and the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them, |
4:25 | Which by the mouth of thy seruant Dauid hast saide, Why did the Gentiles rage, and the people imagine vaine things? |
4:26 | The Kings of the earth assembled, and the rulers came together against the Lord, and against his Christ. |
4:27 | For doutlesse, against thine holy Sonne Iesus, whome thou haddest anoynted, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel gathered themselues together, |
4:28 | To doe whatsoeuer thine hand, and thy counsell had determined before to be done. |
4:29 | And nowe, O Lord, beholde their threatnings, and graunt vnto thy seruants with all boldnesse to speake thy word, |
4:30 | So that thou stretch forth thine hand, that healing, and signes, and wonders may be done by the Name of thine holy Sonne Iesus. |
4:31 | And when as they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together, and they were all filled with the holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God boldely. |
4:32 | And the multitude of them that beleeued, were of one heart, and of one soule: neither any of them said, that any thing of that which he possessed, was his owne, but they had all thinges common. |
4:33 | And with great power gaue the Apostles witnes of the resurrection of the Lord Iesus: and great grace was vpon them all. |
4:34 | Neither was there any among them, that lacked: for as many as were possessours of landes or houses, solde them, and brought the price of the things that were solde, |
4:35 | And layde it downe at the Apostles feete, and it was distributed vnto euery man, according as he had neede. |
4:36 | Also Ioses which was called of the Apostles, Barnabas (that is by interpretation the sonne of consolation) being a Leuite, and of the countrey of Cyprus, |
4:37 | Where as he had land, solde it, and brought the money, and laid it downe at the Apostles feete. |
4:1 | As they spake vnto the people: the Priestes and the Rular of the Temple, and the Saduces came vpon them, |
4:2 | taking it greuouslye that they taughte the people and preached in Iesus the resurreccion frome deathe. |
4:3 | And layed handes on them, and putte them in holde vntyll the nexte daie, for it was nowe euen tyde. |
4:4 | Howe be it, manye of them which hearde the wordes, beleued: and the numbre of the men was about fyue thousande. |
4:5 | And it chaunced on the morowe that theyr rulars, and elders, and scribes, |
4:6 | as Annas the chiefe Prieste, and Cayphas, and Iohn, and Alexander, and as many as were of the hye priestes gathered together at Ierusalem, |
4:7 | and set them before them, & axed: by what power or in what name haue ye done this syrs? |
4:8 | Then Peter full of the holy ghost sayed vnto them: ye rulars of the people, and elders of Israel, |
4:9 | if we thys day are examined of the good dede done to the sicke man by what meanes he is made whole: |
4:10 | be it knowen vnto you all and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Iesus Christe of Nazareth, whom ye crucifyed, and whom God raysed agayne from deathe, euen by hym doth thys man stande here presente before you whole. |
4:11 | This is the stone cast asyde of you builders, which is set in the chiefe place of the corner. |
4:12 | Neither is ther saluacion in any other. Nor yet also is there any other name geuen to men wherin we muste be saued. |
4:13 | When they sawe the boldnes of Peter & Iohn and vnderstode that, they were vnlerned men and lay people, they meruailed, and they knew then that they were with Iesu: |
4:14 | and beholdinge also the man whiche was healed standynge wyth them, they coulde not saye agaynst it. |
4:15 | But they commaunded them to go a syde out of the counsell, and counceled amonge them selues |
4:16 | saiynge: what shall we do to these men? For a manifeste signe is done by them, and is openlye knowen to all them that dwell in Hierusalem, and we can not denie it. |
4:17 | But that it be noised no further among the people, let vs threaten and charge them that they speake henceforth to no man in this name. |
4:18 | And they called them and commaunded them that in no wyse they should speake or teache in the name of Iesu. |
4:19 | But Peter and Iohn aunswered to them and sayd: whether it be ryght in the syght of God to obey you more then God, iudge ye. |
4:20 | For we can not. But speake that whiche we haue sene and heard. |
4:21 | So threatened they them and let them go, and founde nothinge howe to punyshe them, because of the people. For all men lauded God for the myracle which was done, |
4:22 | for the man was aboue fourty yeare olde, on whom thys myracle of healynge was shewed. |
4:23 | Assone as they were let go, they came to their fellowes, and shewed all that the hye priestes and elders had sayed to them. |
4:24 | And when they hearde that, they lifte vp their voices to God with one accorde, and saied: Lorde, thou art God, whiche haste made heauen and earth, the sea and al that in them is, |
4:25 | whiche by the mouth of thy seruaunt Dauid hast said: Why dyd the heathen rage, and the people imagyn vaine thinges. |
4:26 | The kinges of the earth stode vp and the rulers came together, againste Lorde and agaynste his Chryste. |
4:27 | For of a trueth againste thy holy childe Iesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herode and also Poncius Pilate, with the Gentyls & the people of Israel, gathered them selues together, |
4:28 | for to do whatsoeuer thy hande and thy councell determined before to be done. |
4:29 | And nowe Lorde, beholde their threateninges, and graunte vnto thy seruauntes with all confidence to speake thy worde. |
4:30 | So that thou stretche forth thy hande, that healing and signes and wounders be done by the name of thy holye chylde Iesus. |
4:31 | And assone as they had prayed, the place moued where they were assembled together, and they were all filled with the holy ghoste, and they spake the worde of God boldlye. |
