31:1 | I made a couenant with mine eyes; why then should I thinke vpon a mayd? |
31:2 | For what portion of God is there from aboue? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high? |
31:3 | Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquitie? |
31:4 | Doeth not he see my wayes, and count all my steps? |
31:5 | If I haue walked with vanitie, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit; |
31:6 | Let me bee weighed in an euen ballance, that God may know mine integritie. |
31:7 | If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaued to my hands: |
31:8 | Then let mee sow, and let another eate, yea let my off-spring be rooted out. |
31:9 | If mine heart haue bene deceiued by a woman, or if I haue layde wait at my neighbours doore: |
31:10 | Then let my wife grind vnto another, and let others bow downe vpon her. |
31:11 | For this is an heinous crime, yea, it is an iniquitie to bee punished by the Iudges. |
31:12 | For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would roote out all mine encrease. |
31:13 | If I did despise the cause of my man-seruant, or of my mayd-seruant, when they contended with me: |
31:14 | What then shall I do, when God riseth vp? and when hee visiteth, what shall I answere him? |
31:15 | Did not hee that made mee in the wombe, make him? and did not one fashion vs in the wombe? |
31:16 | If I haue withhelde the poore from their desire, or haue caused the eyes of the widow to faile: |
31:17 | Or haue eaten my morsell my selfe alone, and the fatherlesse hath not eaten thereof: |
31:18 | (For from my youth hee was brought vp with me as with a father, and I haue guided her from my mothers wombe.) |
31:19 | If I haue seene any perish for want of cloathing, or any poore without couering: |
31:20 | If his loynes haue not blessed me, and if hee were not warmed with the fleece of my sheepe: |
31:21 | If I haue lift vp my hand against the fatherlesse, when I saw my helpe in the gate: |
31:22 | Then let mine arme fall from my shoulder-blade, and mine arme be broken from the bone. |
31:23 | For destruction from God was a terrour to mee: and by reason of his highnesse, I could not endure. |
31:24 | If I haue made golde my hope, or haue said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence: |
31:25 | If I reioyced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much: |
31:26 | If I beheld the Sunne when it shined, or the Moone walking in brightnesse: |
31:27 | And my heart hath bene secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand: |
31:28 | This also were an iniquitie to be punished by the Iudge: For I should haue denied the God that is aboue. |
31:29 | If I reioyced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lift vp my selfe when euill found him: |
31:30 | (Neither haue I suffered my mouth to sinne by wishing a curse to his soule.) |
31:31 | If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! wee cannot be satisfied. |
31:32 | The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doores to the trauailer. |
31:33 | If I couered my transgressions, as Adam: by hiding mine iniquitie in my bosome: |
31:34 | Did I feare a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrifie me: that I kept silence, and went not out of the doore? |
31:35 | O that one would heare me! beholde, my desire is, that the Almightie would answere me, and that mine aduersary had written a booke. |
31:36 | Surely I would take it vpon my shoulder, and bind it as a crowne to me. |
31:37 | I would declare vnto him the number of my steps, as a prince would I goe neere vnto him. |
31:38 | If my land cry against me, or that the furrowes likewise thereof complaine: |
31:39 | If I haue eaten the fruits thereof without money, or haue caused the owners thereof to loose their life: |
31:40 | Let thistles grow in stead of wheat, and cockle in stead of barley. The words of Iob are ended. |

31:8 | Then shall I sowe, and an other eate: yea my posteritie shalbe cleane rooted out |
31:9 | If my heart haue ben deceaued by a woman, or if I haue layde wayte at my neyghbours doore |
31:10 | Then let my wife grinde vnto an other man, and let other men lye with her |
31:11 | For this is a wickednesse, and sinne that is worthy to be punished |
31:12 | Yea a fire that vtterly should consume and roote out all my increase |
31:13 | If I euer thought scorne to do right vnto my seruauntes & maydens, when they had any matter against me |
31:14 | When God will sit in iudgement, what shall I do? & when he will visite me, what aunswere shal I geue him |
31:15 | He that fashioned me in my mothers wombe, made he not him also? were we not both shapen a like in our mothers bodies |
31:16 | If I denied the poore of their desire, or haue caused the eyes of the wydow to wayte in vayne |
31:17 | If I haue eaten my morsell alone, that ye fatherlesse hath not eaten therof |
31:18 | (For from my youth it hath growen vp with me as with a father, and from my mothers wombe I haue ben guyde to the wydowe |
31:19 | If I haue seene any perishe for want of clothing, or any poore for lake of rayment |
31:20 | If his loynes haue not blessed me, because he was warmed with the fleece of my sheepe |

31:22 | Then let myne arme fall fro my shoulder, and myne arme holes be broken from the bone |
31:23 | For I haue euer feared the vengeaunce and punishment of God, and knewe very well that I was not able to beare his burthen |
31:24 | Haue I put my trust in golde? or haue I sayde to the wedge of golde, thou art my confidence |
31:25 | Haue I reioyced because my power was great, and because my hande gat so much |
31:26 | Dyd I euer greatly regarde the rysing of the sunne? or had I the goyng downe of the moone in great reputation |
31:27 | Hath my heart medled priuyly with any disceite? or did I euer kisse myne owne hande |
31:28 | (That were a wickednesse worthy to be punished: for then shoulde I haue denyed the God that is aboue. |
31:29 | Haue I euer reioyced at the hurt of myne enemie? or was I euer glad that any harme happened vnto him? [Oh, no. |
31:30 | I neuer suffred my mouth to sinne, by wishing a curse to his soule |
31:31 | Dyd not the men of myne owne housholde say, Who shall let vs to haue our belly full of his fleshe |
31:32 | The straunger dyd not lodge in the streete, but I opened my doores vnto him that went by the way |
31:33 | Haue I kept secrete my sinne, and hyd myne iniquitie, as Adam dyd |
31:34 | Though I coulde haue made afeard a great multitude, yet the most contemptible of the families dyd feare me: so I kept scilence, and went not out of the doore |
31:35 | O that I had one which woulde heare me: beholde my signe in the whiche the almightie shal aunswere for me, though he that is my contrarie partie hath written a booke against me |
31:36 | Yet will I take it vpon my shoulder, & as a garlande binde it about my head |
31:37 | I will tell hym the number of my goinges, & go vnto him as to a prince |
31:38 | But if case be that my lande crye against me, or that the forowes thereof make any complaynt |
31:39 | If I haue eaten the fruites therof vnpayed for, yea if I haue greeued the soules of the maisters therof |

31:11 | For this is a wickednes, and iniquitie to bee condemned: |
31:12 | Yea, this is a fire that shall deuoure to destruction, and which shall roote out al mine increase, |
31:13 | If I did contemne the iudgement of my seruant, and of my mayde, when they did contend with me, |
31:14 | What then shall I do when God standeth vp? and when he shall visit me, what shall I answere? |
31:15 | He that hath made me in the wombe, hath he not made him? hath not he alone facioned vs in the wombe? |

31:25 | If I reioyced because my substance was great, or because mine hand had gotten much, |
31:26 | If I did behold the sunne, when it shined, or the moone, walking in her brightnes, |
31:27 | If mine heart did flatter me in secrete, or if my mouth did kisse mine hand, |
31:28 | (This also had bene an iniquitie to be condemned: for I had denied the God aboue) |
31:29 | If I reioyced at his destruction that hated me, or was mooued to ioye when euill came vpon him, |
31:30 | Neither haue I suffred my mouth to sinne, by wishing a curse vnto his soule. |

31:37 | I will tell him the nomber of my goings, and goe vnto him as to a prince. |
31:38 | If my lande cry against me, or the furrowes thereof complayne together, |
31:39 | If I haue eaten the fruites thereof without siluer: or if I haue grieued the soules of the masters thereof, |
31:40 | Let thistles growe in steade of wheate, and cockle in the stead of Barley. The wordes of Iob are ended. |
